I bring to you a small idea, of how RT could be countered.
I added some fiction lore to make it go down easy, about how the scientists modified a couple of devices.
After the Federation realized the Potential of alien tech influenced space displacement effects utilized on Long Range Frigates, both topics were brought into focus by the high admiralty: either develop a ship which could utilize this effect / find some use on their own designs, or come up with a countermeasure for the battlefield.
Project “BLINK” was a top secret research task group, but the early results were not promising: ship designs which would use the technology would either not work well with established federal doctrines, or would become too big; reason was, that the technology actually used parts of the long range frigate design to work, which made it only thrust backwards in those ships; even then the hope of creating a forward thruster use was centred in the first months. Only after creating a working prototype named Jumper 1, research for counter measures started to show some success.
After realizing the space displacement was not able to penetrate solid objects of any kind, research revealed, that also other phenomena could be used to interrupt the process.
Jumper 1 was handled as a failure project, but the side studies made first theories of counter measures possible.
A small displacement distortion field would fool the reverse thrusters into stopping as if it hit a solid object like an asteroid.
This lead the scientists to create prototype models for various federation technologies, which could be deployed on the battlefield.
Needless to say, spies from other factions quickly realized the importance of this discovery, and would soon follow to modify their own arsenal.
The scientists modified following devices, since the Federation employed most of them:
* Sentry Drones
* Microlocators
* Nukes
These items usually have small or no collision field, but with a displacement distortion field built in, which can use the device as is without further complications or cost, would create a virtual hitbox around the device (which could be calculated purely by range from object to speed physics up), which only for the Reverse Thruster acts, as if it would hit a solid globe of matter and stop the jump.
This would mean, deploying Sentry Drones or Microlocators, or dropping a nuke behind any vessel trying to reverse thrust, could end up hitting that device and stop the jump.
For the nukes, scientists could harvest the most power, therefore the biggest range of effect (slightly smaller than the blast wave), however only for a certain time. For Sentry Drones and Microlocators only a small field could be generated, but carefully deployed, it was still more effective, than counting on the thrusting Frigate to collide with the item.
Nukes could even be tuned up, so that the field could be generated around the ship, making the Reverse Thruster effect completely impossible.
Other means of warp fields are not affected, and conventional thrusting ships would not collide with the field.
Later development was financed by the Duke corporation, once the biggest supplier of Tactical Warheads, now on the verge of bankruptcy, in the hope to acquire some serious customers again.
TL;DR
make the collision check for sentry drones, microlocators a bit bigger if RT checks for it’s flightpath; add a collision check for nearby ticking nukes. only affects RT.
