I will vote the second option, but only if squads just get matched with other squads AND randoms, so you don’t have ONLY SQUAD queue and separated forever alone queue.
^ this.
Ie, a Tier in which an even number of squads are queuing: pit them together. A Tier which an odd number of squads are queuing… that’s gonna be tough to balance… Perhaps compensate, somehow? 8v10?
Oh, so you took my suggestion under observation? Good.
Squads against squads and randoms vs randoms is a great idea, we can at least give it a chance.
@Griffon & Eviscerador: are you guys affraid if you invite new people to the game that they will get rolled with the squads if you try to “show” them the game?
I don’t really see the problem… there would be squad only games in T2, squad only in T3, so if you squad in T1 you will face T1 other squad pugs, not elite corps, we stay in higher tiers. Either locked tiers or not, but I think locked tiers would be much better, to avoid confusion and frustration, also gives the game a certain “feel” of being locked into tiers, as being way more exclusive.
And as in any other game, you just progress and grind trough lower ranks to get to the top. You can’t expect to start at R9 tier right away (there is a problem with grinding ship sinergy they introduced tough, before this wasn’t such a problem, you just skipped ships you didn’t like, but now you are forced to fly R7).
Eviscerador… why are you so much against squad only games? You have 12v12 in MWO which they added too, and that is really competitive experience if you wanna try out. It worked great in other games too. Squads against randoms will always be bone crushing, in most cases… And than there is the whole problem if you get squads or only randoms on your side, and so on, so much matchmaking problems with trying to balance randoms with squads. I vote, at least let’s try this for one week if nothing else.
I think when players squad, they should be put in a game when the opponent also have a squad, but that doesn’t mean the whole game in only made of squad. There could be for example : 1 squad of 4 + 5 randoms vs 1 squad of 4 + 5 randoms
this system should avoid the long waiting time if a squad wants to play, or the games with only 4-6 people in them.
Regardless of the outcome of the poll, Tier 1 must be locked no matter what, in order to protect the newcomers and give them time and space to learn the game without being humilliated. Make it a different queue where only players with less than 100 games can enter, and you won’t have to deal with the “veterans” farming the “n00bs”.
I’d still like to add the fact that, if you have under x amount of battles, the game auto-locks your matches to T1 (or T2/3 if you have DLC ships installed).
That’s actually a great idea. It’s like newbie zones in mmorpgs!
In every MMORPG that I played in the last 10 years, there’s always some kind of lock to avoid higher level players PKing and abusing newcomers, like “you can’t target/attack someone who’s 10 levels lower than you”, or “you can’t return to the starting towns” and things like that. Give the new players a place to take it easy, take their time, learn the game, try out the 3 faction’s ships without being in a continual “oh God, why I keep dying so much regardless of the ship that I pick?”.
I actually played a T1 game today to finalize my sinergy for my fleet strength, no squads, well actually it was a R2-5 game but anyway, it was kinda fun! Completely random, everybody of the same skills, the game was REALLY tight, we barely won the last beacon, the ending score was 1:1. That was a fun game.
T1 and T2 are actually fun with all those new players flying around with everybody on the same gear and chances (I’m not saying mixing T1 and T2 is great, I’d prefer them separate) but hey, I think it’s not bad. But as soon as these guys rush into T3 or higher, they are in the world of hurt when they face the squads. And now it’s all that confusion, when you don’t know what tier are you playing regardless of the ship you fly. So if you lock tiers, squads, or both, everything would make much more sense and you can always drop down to some simple T2 if you feel you’re not experienced enough for T3 where you die all the time, as was before. Or just try to look for a corp or a squad of people that work together, and get that edge you need.
38 votes, only 16 on the board. When it was just with 1 page we had 7 votes on the option for fixed tiers including squads.
Few minutes later we had everything else same, but the option for fixed tiers + squads set to 0.
So, what is the point in voting anyway ?
The in-game vote seems … rigged. “Do not change anything” Really? I bet those are solo players t1-2.
Well, even with them rigging the voting on the forums here and hiding votes, the answer they don’t want to hear is still winning. Can’t even rig their own poll system correctly.
Antibus, thank you for asking the question where the forums are in an eternal flame on the subject.
Mix tiers dont promote any “progression” as players will always see higher ships destroy them in matches and think that the game is all about gear and ships, but give little thought to anything else. Teamplay as of right now is nonexistent because of the MM problems with squads facing +2 tiers above them. Thats wrong in all aspects.
New players are screwed and cant make friends when they are in mix tiers, which in turn makes them distant from the game. They would attempt to squad up with others but cant when they are forced up a tier they are not prepared for. That causes frustration between friends and Corp Mates.
Tier lock promotes a fair battle field from the start and it allows players to really work on their skill and stay where they are having the most fun in. thats what counts. If a player is having a good time, then who cares where he is in skill, but maybe decides to get a license to eventually increase.
Squads want to be on the same Tier together and in a friendship aspect, they want to be on the same MM battles.
If a NASA squaded up and we all have T4 ships, then we EXPECT to be matched with another squad in a battle. Thats only logical! But we want to see nothing but T4 ships!
I have to say, that if I was a new player to come into this game now, I would have quit after I have gotten into T2.
I think we all agree in the squading system (see poll ingame) it’s better to be against another squad rather than going up in tier.
But please, not fixed tier, please. It was such a nightmare when it was fixed. Newbies farming was way worse than it currently is now.
Well make it so its not worth farming. You get lower rewards as is and you cant gain synergy on T1 ships and the only thing a veteran can do is take his T1 ship to go down there, so there is no point. Fixed tiers allow for much better balancing where skill is a factor. Besides, We want people to come and face us up in the higher tiers, so get some skill and some ships and FACE US LIKE A MAN! not to you Griffion, but in general.
