Poll on the match making. November, 8th.

Clearly, you fail to grasp what the complaints are.

When people talk about skill, they mean skill, not “skill + tech”. If I lose, I want to lose because my opponents were better than me, not because they had better tech… and especially not if they had tech that is simply not available to the ships I am flying.

But if you are facing one tier higher, is because you either have, top equipment, great skill ratio, or other friends to squad with. So you are balanced against such T4 pugs.

The main problem now is that in T4 and T5, there are only corp squads, because the player base is SO SMALL, that it can’t be otherwise.

If you play tier 1 to 3, the MM works wonderful.

T3 vs T4 is actually personnal experience (when flying solo, not in squad).

T5 effectively don’t have enough player to be matched against T5 even at peak hours. I think there can be a solution but fixed tier would fix T4 players but mess T5 ones… so not a real solution. There must be a solution to please both but I can’t find one right now, except growing playerbase.

I don’t feel bad for being killed by less skill more gear as it happens in most other competitive games I played. I don’t feel bad except if the gap is something “fightable” (example : in bf, being simple soldier with basic rifle against a general with full gear isn’t fightable).

Yes it does… so long as your definition of “wonderful” allows for a Rank 4 pilot flying solo to be matched against Rank 9 opponents…

“Yes it does… so long as your definition of “wonderful” allows for a Rank 4 pilot flying solo to be matched against Rank 9 opponents…”

if that guy is not skilled, that’s ok.

You don’t need to be skilled when you can take two full overheats of fire from your target and kill him with two shots from your own.

as far as I played I never two shot a T3 ships from a T4 one. the damage difference isn’t that great. And a skilled player in a T3 inty, a non skilled player won’t even land a single hit.

I also can say that soloing T3 is somewhat better than doing it in T2, the scalability issues of modules against T3 vs T4 don’t feel that big issue as it is for T2 vs T3. Yet squadding is painful in T3. There should be better ways to balance that, even --and especially-- if we had bigger player base.

Balancing is needed, it is not fun if tier games are just about people in R9 purple ship squads violating R7 newcomer randoms. But current system has it’s issues also. There can be a better way.

I have played rank 4 ship with full purple in a squad of four, and I have met rank 9 ships. It is not easy, but as I said, a friend and myself, flying a deimos and a Katana took down a Crus S which was wandering alone in the map.

But anyway, that was in only one match, most of the games were against rank 7 or rank 8 top, which is doable. Not easy, but doable.

Anyway, as I said like 10 times before, I think that the MM works wonderful except the squad malus, that should be removed and balanced matching other squads with the same skill in the opposite team.

Current system needs tweaking and a change in squad system.

+1 to the post above

So your answer to that is “Well it’s fine in a squad if you can pick off some lone pilot.” Right. Did you not see the solo part?

Look up the word solo then get back to me. The only time I got any kills in that match was when my R7/R8 teammates hammered someone and I got a cheeky killshot in on an already crippled target. I did not engage in a single dogfight - I had to run like hell whenever anyone so much as glanced my way.

I wonder if you didn’t meet tier above aces… Because last time I fought T4 solo while in T3, I wasn’t running at all, I even got a positive kill ratio (in a gunship).

With a rank 4 ship playing solo I have never, ever, faced anything higher than rank 7. And most of the players with rank 7 ships, also had rank 5 or 6 in the roster. Most of my games are in rank 4 to 6.

Even with almost full purple Deimos (which is my fetish ship in rank 4)

I’m sorry if you did, but that is most likely and aberration due to few people online and your high stats. So in fact the MM is ok, but the player base is small.

I find really funny the excuse “this MM will work awesome with more players”. You fail to realize this game is losing people with every passing day thanks to this MM. How come so much people abandoned the game when it was implement? How come more people is abandoning it right now? Everyday we see plenty of new players coming, but at the expense of lot of players leaving, and still, the numbers right now are showing that the number of active players have dropped at least 30% in the past month. Is that normal or healthy for the game?

If we are gonna sit down with the actual system waiting and hoping for the playerbase to grow magically out of nowhere, we’ll only achieve the opposite.

Fix the MM so people stop being punished from trying to team up with others, avoid those infernal gaps in technology between ships (example: no more R5 against R9, or R7 against R11), and let the playerbase to consolidate before doing radical changes.

I think the squad problem did most of the damage to the playerbase, If I’m no more able to fight with friend, I’d leave the game. Hopefully my friends are low so the MM doesn’t put us up in tiers xD. But if we were to always fight T4 I wouldn’t be here anymore.

I hope they get the squad problem out tomorrow. Then the playerbase should grow again.

doing radical changes is easier when there is less player actually. You don’t change radically something if you have lots of players.

No. It’s not okay. A good matchmaking system works. Full stop. End of sentence. Carriage return.

This matchmaking “works” by dragging people out of one queue and dumping them in another, often with little to no regard as to whether it is balanced or not. You fly in pure purple T2… but I use Blues as standard and only upgrade to purple if a loot drop allows it. My ships are evidently lower tech than yours, and I am facing higher tech opponents. You can argue “skill difference” all you like, but my skills are nothing out of the ordinary. Frankly, anyone who learned to play the game in a fixed tier environment can do what I do. If that makes me exceptional now, then this game really has gone to hell.

It only works as you say when there isn’t enough people in your queue. Else it matches you with correct player according to your skill/gear level.

And you may be surprised by the level of “ordinary” people.

Well, a good MM system works fine IF the range of people to match are inside the optimum range the MM algorithm has been programmed to.

That is why it works mostly fine at lower tiers (I’m playing EU time with an average of 1900 - 1600 players online at evening) than in high tiers.

There is not a “supreme” MM which always works no matter what range or players are online.

this apply simply to any multiplayer game, if there is less player, you’ll mostly be matched either too high or too low.

How about we make a compromise right now with the current system?

ELIMINATE THE SQUAD MM ISSUES RIGHT NOW.

Squads going into MM should take into consideration the person with the highest stats and put into the Queue accordingly.

If the entire squad is geared up for T3, they go into a T3/4 according to the person with the highest stats as if his squad mates were tagging along with his normal queue.

That should make me, and everyone else happy. And it will be fair because then it cannot be abused cause, if you have good stats, then you will be going up, if not, down.
