Plasma Engine

Similar to to Cruise engine but not quite. I will avoid using numbers and just give the gist of the idea

  • Available to Frigates only

  • Removes ability to afterburn

  • Slightly reduces acceleration

  • Max speed is now 700

When the ship is under the effect of an anomaly (such as the little, red stars in certain maps and the blue anomaly in the tube map; basically anything that gives you the anomaly damage debuff when you enter it):

  • Rotation and Strafing Increased.

  • Acceleration is increased to afterburning levels but without the option to actually afterburn

Just to provide more gameplay and build options. Plus I thought it was a good idea. Thoughts would be nice.

Too limited. You’d only be able to use that mod in, what? 3-4 maps? Whilst being too close to the anomalies and taking damage while you’re at it.

Plasma engines put out about as much power as a xxxx.

 

Great for inner solar system travel right now.

 

Not great for a space shooter.

 

You should look up the quantom drive, you’ll probably have fun turning that idea into a mod.

Pretty much what Ory said above. It’s a neat idea, but way limited.

What if getting shot at with EM damage increased acceleration?

Interesting idea.  Have it apply to frigs only instead of fighters, and watch LRFs go 700, run into things and blow up.  Would be hilarious.  Drive by minefields!!

 

Here is my twist on it:

 

  • No afterburner permitted (adaptives don’t work)

  • Speed stays the same

  • Rotation increases

  • Strafe/acceleration numbers increase to levels slightly higher than they would with afterburners.

  • Being under an anomaly cancels the effects

  • Only applies to either Frigs or Intys

All of the ones stated previously on that list

I wanted it so being under an anomaly would benefit more or detriment less.

That would make it very useful for people farming or camping in open space.  The idea is still pretty cool.  Maybe a new type of engine similar this will be developed in the future.  1 special engine mod for each class (Frigs,Intys,and Fighters which already have one)
