Phaser energy ball hitbox

The hitbox on the energy balls fired from the Command main weapon “Phaser” is way outside of its model. What makes it worse is that this hitbox doesn’t even interact with Phaser bolts for detonation! But what I’m trying to say here is that when I’m firing my phaser anywhere near rocks or debris I have to stay away from it or they will “hit” the object and fade out of existance. It also seems quite strange that the energy spheres do absolutely nothing on impact with an object. Maybe they should have a lesser explosion on impact, but the same massive explosion on remote-detonation?

Also detonating them needs to be easier. Maybe give them targeting boxes with nothing but a range on them so the game thinks that it is shooting at an object instead of a projectile.

no it should not detonate on impact. it has a little animation for impacts, or triggers the materials debries, so i think the animation is fine. it only detonates if you shoot it, so why would it detonate if it hits solid rock?

 

the hitbox being so big i thought to be a measure to make it harder to use than singularity and make quickshots from a strafing position a bit harder, but maybe its also unintended, i dunno :slight_smile:

I understand the non-explosive impact. It’s just weird.

And the whole “vanishes when it’s not even that close to an object” thing is just plain annoying. Especially when you are trying to use it tactically and fire one behind an obstacle and detonating it to damage hiding enemies.

The phaser balls are fine. They are supposed to be hard to detonate, as they do some considerable damage, not to mention it is thermal, so it will likely catch guards off-phase.

Not only are they hard to detonate, but they seem to have VERY large Hitboxes for dealing the EM damage and running in to obstacles. Get close to a rock and shoot your phaser. It won’t work. Get away from a rock and shoot as if you were aiming behind it to the side. It will “impact” the edge of it and vanish, even though it’s nowhere NEAR the rock.

No change is needed. The hitbox for the balls is large to make it easier to detonate. The hard part of detonating is timing. The energy balls seem to vanish so easy because a balance is needed. They do extremely high amounts of damage (I’ve gotten 12k crits on a hull before), and so they need to be hard to use. If the phaser were easy to use, it would need a serious damage nerf.

Then clearly you haven’t used the phaser very much. If you look closely when detonating a charge, 9 times out of 10, you don’t actually hit the orb itself, you hit somewhere in the vicinity of it.

Mhmm. I’d like to see this phenomenon on the receiving end. Set up a custom with a password.

You must be playing on extremely low resolution then, cuz the number of pixels between your shot and the ball is probably more like 20-50, depending on the range
