Penalty for abandoning battle

Just a thought because I’ve been seeing a lot of rage quitters and overall abandons in higher Tiers such as 4 & 5.  I have a suggestion that if someone abandoned a battle they should have to wait 30mins before they can access those ships or start another battle.

Yes…No… thoughts?

The guys abandoning T4 won’t come back anyway after they realized they have to grind their 1/10 T4 ships vs purple T5.

says the guy who said tier 4 and 5 is merged together. that means its t5 game. or was it changed on last patch maybe?

trolol, should be no penalty for leaving. this is just like all other games. oh xxxx he left our server. he shall get punished. trolol.

Without getting into yet another “other games” off topic… You would be very wrong about this. There are numerous team base games that do exactly as I suggest.

We also all know the reason you don’t like the idea is because you are one of the rage quitters!

I get DCed occasionally because my internet connection can get unstable without warning. Unless the system can discern between DCing and intentional abandoning of a match, I’m not inclined to agree. Hell, the game doesn’t even let me reconnect when I DC.

I agree you should not face a penalty if you get DC’ed… but thats different than “oh hay… i don’t want to fight those guys over there… abandon battle screw everyone else on the field” The game already knows the difference between a DC and Abandon.

Yes I have this problem sometimes also.

It is especially frustrating in Invasion when it makes you return to the hangar…

If you abandon battle you wont receive any reward. I think that is more than enough.

Don’t their ships become unavailable due to being in combat until the match is finished? I thought this was the penalty.

And you also still have to pay the repair costs for any ship destroyed or at the very least the ammo used.

Soooo… Everyone thinks it’s fine if you go into sector conquest only to have someone on your team abandon battle if it’s against a good team? The match didn’t last more than a few mins because with a man down your team is going to most likely get rolled over. So the whole “ships in battle” for the guy isn’t any problem for him. That’s just enough time to get a drink and check emails. There of corse isn’t any repair costs because he saw the squad of good players on the other team and said nope before the game ever started. And of course there is no lost reward. All he has to do is queue again, rinse repeat until he finds a game he thinks he can win. All the time leaving the same people hanging over and over.

Just checking… This is perfectly fine with all of you?

Which is why I agree with imposing a penalty on people who abandon battles.

As for DCing… why are my ships stuck in battle if the game doesn’t even let me reconnect?

If the option to reconnect doesn’t appear, it seems like the game didn’t recognize you as a DC, but marked you as a leaver perhaps…

Of course there’s a lost reward. Win or lose he would have made at least 400k had he completed the game. The difference between a win and loss synergy and credit wise isn’t that big, but leaving means you get neither, no chance at getting any points nor be able to complete contracts. On top of the ammo costs.

Sector gives such good money that it’s stupid to leave just because you may lose. If you’re at the point where you don’t need any money or synergy then you’re probably in a squad with your corp anyway(which means you’re very unlikely to leave by yourself) since people who have progressed that far usually don’t do so without being in a corp.

For an automatic computer controlled process, it’s better to give the benefit of doubt to the player.  People who are actually disconnected don’t risk getting an half hour ban from the game.  At most it’s 12 minutes for some ships, unless it’s PvE.

You know that to abandon battle you have to hit ESC>abandon. There is no way that this is “disconnected”. I’m not referring to DC’s.

That may be good until people just intentionally force quit SC to “DC”.

Well, there is the possibility that you might be able to convince the Devs to connect the current rating system that we have for after battles to a form of pilot preference.

Let me explain:

After battle you can currently give pilots a thumbs up if they did well. For Sector Conquest ONLY, introduce a Thumbs Down option as well. If you encounter a DCing pilot, and your entire team gives him a thumbs down after the match, the game will try not to pair you up with that pilot again (unless they are in your corporation). Giving a pilot a thumbs up makes them more likely to be matched with your team again.

It’s not a penalty per se, but it is a way to reward those who help your team and reduce the likelihood of getting the same useless players over and over again.

I have noticed that sometimes if a DC occurs, a player can’t reconnect, even if he did not want to DC.

so the “detection” of DCs is already somewhat vague (don’t understand, why it was made like this, the re-join feature was actually quite neat)

don’t think this is going to work. there are people who just will thumbs down others for personal immature reasons.

Ships getting stuck in battle is already bad enough. We don’t need to make it worse. Newbies gonna newb.
