I get disconnected a lot from my games, and I can personally say that the game can only differentiate between a DC and a rage quit in that if you get DC’d you can rejoin the battle. But I can’t tell you how many times I get DC’d at the end of the battle and miss out on the rewards. When I get back in, it tells me I don’t get any rewards since I deserted the battlefield, even though the game crashed or I had a network error. Neither of these things are in my control, and it is highly unfair to punish players for them. I agree whole-heartedly that players should be punished heavier for rage-quitting or deserting their team, but I think the game needs to improve its differentiation between rage quitting and DC’s. Or the game could prevent the DC’s in the first place.
I think that most of the disconnects occur because, like Snib said, players in low synergy t4 ships with only green or white modules cannot compete with players in all purple, maxed out t5 ships. The matchmaking for t4 and t5 is highly unfair to pilots running only t4 ships. I personally have t5 ships, but I want to increase the synergy on my t4s without fighting t5s. It is hard enough to fight all purple maxed out rank 12 ships in a 1/10 rank 10, but pitting players with 1/10 rank 10s against players with 10/10 rank 15s is very unfair.
The matchmaking should either be fixed to have only ranks 10-12 queue together and ranks 13-15 queue together, or it should queue pilots based on their skill ratings. Players with very high skill ratings flying t4 ships will stand a much better chance than players with low skill ratings.
On the note of players abandoning battles. I think that heavier punishments should be implemented. They don’t need to be as drastic as say League of Legends where you get banned for several days, but I do think players should have a fairly long wait time before they can play again (30min - 1hr). I also think a good punishment would be that the player would have to pay an abandoning fine or something along those lines, where a player who abandons a game (not gets disconnected) has to pay a sum of money before they can use those ships again.
These are just my thoughts, but what do you think?
I don’t think the game can differentiate between DCing and abandoning matches. When I get DCed, odds are I can’t rejoin the battle and I’m treated as though I abandoned a match.
i find when my internet cuts out i am able to rejoin the match. there was a long period of time (many many months ago) where my internet would cut out and I was not able to rejoin the matches. i am using wireless, maybe it is different with a cable
