On No-Show Dreadnought Wings

There is no doubt the penalty would be easier to implement, and I don’t think it’s a terrible idea. I do however think it’s a band-aid on a major wound that will only kind of work for short amount of time. Is the point of the penalty to stop corps from using ArcTic’s shady tactics, or to ensure that corporations can play a worth while game after much planning and waiting? To me it’s the latter, and I’m sure there is a way to marry the two ideas without penalizing corporations who have good intentions but get caught in unfortunate circumstances(I have not thought of it yet though or I would suggest something). Blame it on better planning or w/e but it’s going to happen regardless of a penalty, and when it does don’t you still want to play a match? I could care less if the other corporation was penalized, and if it was sufficient to make me feel better about the complete waste of time.

how are they shady?

i’m surprised i was the first one to think of it. i also came up with another idea of protecting your allies by attacking their sector and not showing up.

Shady is the wrong word, more like douchey tactics.

FIFY

Pretty much.

Granted, why implement this penalty, we can just let RadiX keep wasting their iridium, it’s not like they are gonna win any sectors…

jk, kinda

heeeeeeey

Once the bug that make wing leave queue if ONE player have connection issues will be corrected, then maybe penalties could be applied.

How do you handle cancelling attack to defend your own sector (that should be decided AFTER attacker registration, coz they could still don’t show, even if there is a penalty).

And what about the deliberate tactics of some allied corporations that announce fake attacks on sector to prevent real raids?

Sure. But something still needs to be done.

If you didn’t have enough wings to defend AND you don’t want to lose defense points, then you shouldn’t have sent an attack wing. You have until 30 minutes before battles begin to cancel, after all.

They get penalized.

I’m surprised this doesn’t fall under abusing game mechanics.

Most corporations can’t defend against 8 different attacking corps. There just aren’t enough players to do that. If battles for a single sector were more staggered then the practice in question would be much less prevalent. Plus it would be easier to justify the no-show penalty.

Another thing that particularly irks me is that if your sector is attacked, the defense % doesn’t go up no matter what,  even if nobody shows to the attack. Honestly, the opposite should be true and the % should go up no matter what unless you lose a dreadnought battle for that sector. Hell, having your dreadnought stationed there should give you the 5% even if you lose.

As is, corporations can put your sector ‘on hold’ by just throwing small increments of iridium at it and not actually showing up. And that’s abusive to say the least.

I was wondering why our sectors weren’t going up.

This is yet another reason why there needs to be some punishment for not showing up.

I’m surprised this doesn’t fall under abusing game mechanics.

It should be, in my opinion. It’s a dumb “tactic”, if we can even call it that.

The punishment shouldn’t be scaled based on higher counts of sectors owned. There’s already an incentive not to false attack in those cases - high upfront iridium costs. It costs most corps with a sector between 1000 and 2000 iridium to attack, and it costs Arch 6000 iridium to attack right now.

If anything, the fine should scale with having fewer sectors - that way corps with no sectors can’t keep a higher-up one afloat by throwing cheap iridium attacks at it over and over, and corps with high sector counts aren’t penalized further if something goes awry as the wing is being set up.

That said, it’s nearly impossible to get enough wings together to defend against 4 attacks, let alone 8. Most corps can’t get more than 2 wings together anyway, so why not just limit the number of wings that can attack per day to 4, and have hefty iridium penalties for not showing up?

the impact have been lowered by having maximum 1 atk per corp on each sector - this should break this

A attack per corp is a bit weird… It would be better to have large corp that can attack numerous time. But I guess it’s best for the game.

We really need an adjustment made to the system. There are three different issues in the room right now:

  • corps blocking attacks on their friends by announcing attacks to fill up the slots to prevent other/more people from attacking at the same time,

  • corps announcing attacks but not showing up for them, leaving the defenders disappointed and

  • corps blocking a sectors defense percentage from going up by announcing an attack without anyone ever needing to show up.

I have not observed the first issue being overly problematic yet, but the second one keeps happening.

It is very disappointing to set the time aside for the game, be hyped about a fancy dread battle and organize a wing only to find out you can’t play after all. It’s a waste of time.

The third issue seems rather cheap/abusable too.

I do not understand why some corporations keep repeatedly doing this, therefore I assume they are unaware of the game mechanics and assume something will happen,

All of these wouldn’t be possible to do if there was some sort of punishment for not showing up to an attack.

There is the problem of not showing up to an attack in order to be able to defend elsewhere, but you still have a choice there. As these situations should not happen too often, sucking up the first stage of some tiered/scaled punishment shouldn’t be too hard on them.

It needs to bite, so I suggest something like a flat 1k for the first missed attack and doubling the penalty per attack missed in the past week.

With the disconnect issue, my corp couldn’t launch any planned attack several days in a row. It’s not coz we didn’t want to launch them… But the software kept us from doing it. With your system we should have wasted like 6k iridium from abusive game mechanic…

Do you try launching your wing like 30 seconds before the deadline or something? Two minutes is more than enough time to launch, and kick AFK members from the wing.

It was after the attacker registration. But I didn’t try since last patch… And the devs stand that it’s corrected :stuck_out_tongue:

So I’m not sure what you’re complaining about?
