Of Guards and Nukes

Well I guess most of you should realize by now that guards have this crazy ability to take out missiles. But… Nukes are heavy, large, static, VERY hard to use and take decades to recharge. Why should Guards be able to take them out? This is madness!

There’s something I have ask :

Why the hell Jericho is the counter to their own ship?

They have guided torp, and their counter.

The logic would say : Guided torp on Empire.

On the topic, nukes need a re-work anyway.

I’d love to see those nukes stick on the target (beacon or ship).

It’s called be aware of your opponent. If you’re near a guard and see green beams, wait 10 seconds. Thatssit.

Because when you have 93838 people shooting at you from every direction you have the time to wait 10 seconds.

By logic nukes need a counter. If it wasn’t the guard it would be some other ship and you would be saying nerf that one. Everything needs to have something to balance it out… Hence all the focus on game balance. At one point nukes didn’t have any counter and it was just silly watching a whole team of covOps drop nuke after nuke on beacons taking out entire teams. So first nukes got dmg reduced but you still had 8 nukes going off on a beacon so that didn’t really matter. Then the number if nukes you could carry got reduced and the reload time got increased. But you still had multiple nuked beacons and no counter to them. Then they added guards taking them out. Now you have no nukes going off and when you do you have an audio warning so all you have to do is fly 400m out to avoid it. So now nukes are completely useless.

I don’t support a rework on the guard as much as I would suggest revising some of the nerfs to the nuke itself to make it useful again.

Hmmm… Ok then. Make it do more dmg again. And I don’t see why it has the noise AND can be taken out. I’d like either one or he other.

Going way back to the lets be realistic topic:

Covert Ops is meant to be covert. And in real life, when a nuke is armed, it doesn’t make a loud noise and say “Hey! There’s a nuke here so run away!” And it also can’t really be taken out by a silly little laser.

And I agree with Recoil. No one (sane) uses nukes because they’re entirely useless. They can’t even take out a single guard drone on a beacon, and it is a rare day when you damage someone with a nuke. They need some reworking. AMS doesn’t need a nerf.

Las time I saw Error flying a CO he was using nukes.

If everything has a counter, shouldn’t guard’s missile shield take out recon mines as well? You can clearly see them visually much better than a nuke and wouldn’t be as tough to green laser away.  Not saying that they are OP and need fixing or anything, but just applying logic (think they are balanced).  What about the LRF mine fields too?  No way to clear those out, and iirc they still do slightly less damage than a single recon mine.  Very few guards fit missile shields now anyways (besides those stupid bots).

I missed the fun back in the days and 3000 kills with nuke will never happen for me.

 

You forget to use nuke near guard, you forget to use it defensively, you forget to use it even in beacon hunt, because it takes 10 sec in which the recon can capture and fly away for example. And if you dogfight him and try to pull back in the last second it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more effort than hitting that interceptor with 2 kinetic rockets already for the same or more damage. And not to mention you have 10 more, not having to wait 2 min.

I still remember my first nuke use. It was in 0.7.x or something

 

There was frigate, I aimed at the static target, shot (was expecting something like EM torpedo now) and then was “Where is my nuke ?”

Turned around, saw it blinking, went to check what is going on and why is it so slow and the thing blew up!

If you do not disarm it in 3 sec - better run for it, because it will explode in 5 sec.

 

Sounds OK and reasonable.

Also remove that useless cloud in advantage of alpha damage.

It has 2 min cooldown as opposed of Torpedo boats, so we do not need it to “Zone control”, but alpha damage and wreak havoc!

And maybe it only makes noise for the first 3 seconds. Or maybe even just the last 5?

BTW, sneak attacks in Invasion are OP.

Whatever you do, such a big AOE will always be useless in Sec Con with friendly fire. And in invasion it mean that you’ll it players and become criminal.
