The worst thing is that I was online yesterday or did not show the discounts on T5 ships , and today when I logged discounts were canceled …
So Im am here, having solemnly sworn never again to spend a single dime on this game before the most blatant issues have been fixed. But then… I log in. What’s that? Special Sale? 2015 GS for the Premiums I’m missing?
Hmm… there was my oath to not give them any more of my hard earned money, and then there was was my collector’s greed to own anything and everything in the universe in a vain attempt to fill the hole in my soul…
So… what happened?
Well. Obviously I caved. I log out, purchase enough GS to finally get the missing Premiums… and log in again, foaming at the mouth, ready for purchase.
But the sale is over!!!
It was over in the 5 minutes it took me to get the GS.
There was no indication that it would end at this weird time…
This is madness? No, this is SC.
Oh well, another 40 bucks down the drain.
I am so insanely pissed right now…
I am 100% with you James. I can’t afford any GS, but I was playing my xxxx off earning credits and synergy for my dream ship: Lightbringer. It’s actually Spark but I can’t afford it. Anyway, I was in the middle of a PvP when someone announced that the sale was over. I’m really offended by this whole thing. And the fact that the sale ad is still visible even though it’s defunct adds insult to injury. I feel like I’m being taunted by Gaijin. What the xxxx is with the rampant corporate greed? OR, should I say, WHY aren’t they greedier? You and I are two people who were motivated to spend by the sale but then they stopped it?
Is it possible this is a mistake?
I bought 12 credit ships and 1 premium ship with 100% free GS…
Who buys GS? I have 5 premium ships and haven’t spent a single dime.
I want a sale on crews so I can spend the rest of my 850 free GS.
For how long these discounts lasted?
If discounts were cancelled… It might make a bit more sense, since there are still several hours left until new years day ends. And I won’t have to beat myself up for missing them… I had 11 standard ships I was saving up to buy on a sale like this and 2 t5 ships I wanted to get.
I would really enjoy the sale on standard ships, (which I don’t think would bring as much imbalance to the game regarding newbies tier-rushing. It would have been nice for them to keep that going
As for the gs ships… I haven’t played since the sale ended b/c I’m still getting over my frustration for missing this sale, so I can’t really tell what it’s like playing on t5 now. I’m thinking about how a lot of newbies will bring just 1 or 2 t5 premium ships to battle and get wrecked… Especially for domination. And in fact, playing only with premium ships will mean that they won’t advance up the tiers as quickly, without standard ships gaining synergy. So not only does this mess with the t5 community, but I see a possibility that it might even harm the playing experience of newbies.

Btw.: I do not see T5 as Endgame. Not since T5 Premiums have been available for purchase - this means anyone can play T5, regardless of experience. I do not understand why so many vets see T5 as “protected” area. “Protecting” T5 from inexperienced players would also imply “protecting” lower tiers from experienced players. Also, since T5 is purchaseable for so long, any change to that would be seen as unfair and turn off players even more.
Endgame to me is: SC, SpecOps and Dreadnoughts. Not anything Tier specific.
Consider this: Why do people feel the need to purchase T5 Premiums? If they spend money, it seems to imply that they are unhappy/frustrated about something in their current situation, and are led to believe that the purchase will somehow alleviate this frustration.
My theory would be it’s the feeling that the unfair matchmaking puts them together with/against top scorers all the time, increasing the grind for them (by denying Eff/Syn they would otherwise have had) and generally generating loads of frustration. Just imagine playing Junior League Soccer but having to play with Lionel messi either in your or in the opposing team all of the time… for maybe 2900 out of 3000 matches. Or being an amateur runner having to run against Usain Bolt at each and every competition.
This is probably intentional by Gaijin, as they WANT people to spend money. They don’t tell the new players that T5 will be even worse for them. On the contrary: if they have already invested into gettng to T5, maybe if they are frustrated there as well, they will spend even more to get their stuff to purple (the next step).
There is a prevalent understanding in the vet community that players will simply have to play enough low tier matches to become top scorers themselves. This is, IMHO, wrong for most “average” players. Sure, players will improve over time. But not everyone will be much better after 3000 matches than after 300 matches. The top 200 players are not those that simply have enough matches. They are just inherently better at the specific game mechanics than 1.2 million others, which give up somewhere along the way - as most of them will NOT get that much better over time.
IMHO, the only way to really improve player retention would be to have better matchmaking, or even the split SR queue back (for all tiers?). Unfortunately, that would need A) larger player base and B) Gaijin actually wanting to reduce player frustration, not increase it.
Well, i am actually glad, that I haven’t spend a single dime on this. Sale will most likely repeat on 9th of May anyway.
If it won’t, then they will get nothing.

Sale timings should be announced on forum, and there should be an end time indicator in-game also.

Skill is trainable. equipment takes too long to get in star conflict which is why i will choose a trainable Ace with all the premiums and purple everything over a decent t3 player.
First of all, very few, if any, tier-rushing n00bs with premiums have all purple equipment. Most of them have all white/green equipment on their brand new T5 ships (the exception being the ones that spend hundreds of dollars buying the purple modules via GS upgrades).
Secondly, yes skill is trainable, but skill is best trained in stages. Learning basics in T1, learning all the roles, and basic ship builds in T2, and learning intermediate ship builds and more advanced skills in T3, and finally advanced ship builds in T4 with the most advanced skill sets. T5 is supposed to be end-game, where the veteran elite pilots can use their skills against each other and further develop them, development that is impossible if you tier-rushed. Learning all of that in T5 is a lot more work than necessary, and is ultimately frustrating for the trainee and the trainer. A simple cut-and-dry lesson won’t cut it in T5. The best players in T5 learned the hard way, going tier-by-tier, not skipping from T1 or T2 to T5 in one click of the mouse. The veteran elite players in this game have been playing a long time and started this game in a time where progressing from one tier to the next required skill and practice, not money.
In star conflict, it’s some about the skill, but if you have a good build, you don’t need that much skill. Skill helps a lot, but as a Ace, i remember going for pwning t3 to getting slaughtered in t4/5 just because i didn’t have decent ships.
This statement couldn’t be more incorrect. Gear makes some difference, yes. But skill and teamwork are the most important aspects of success in this game. An ESB (or any high-up corp) squad with all white gear could easily out-play a team of random tier-rushing n00bs who have full purple/orange gear. What good is your purple gear if you don’t know how to use it?
The biggest problems I have with tier-rushers are like what Windswept said. They have no idea how to play effectively or be good teammates. Those are skills you learn in late T2 and into T3, and when you skip from T1 or T2 straight to T5, you miss out on those skills, as well as all of the ship building skills, as well as intermediate and advanced playstyles and skills you would earn in T3/T4.
To remedy this mess, we need a countdown timer for sales, which is actively showing the time, like the one, which is shown for premium license.
This should include days, hours, minutes and seconds, until the sale expires. The best thing would be that the sale window expiration timer would be below special tab or displayed on it.
Repeat the sale soon or at least announce it!
Timing was bad and you could earn so much more money, if you could put it on this Friday day for 3 days, that is until 23:59:59.
Sale was too short and nobody from now on will actually pay such a high price, until we get exactly the same discount for 2015 GS for T5, which imo is a fair and a good price.
If you want money, repeat this sale soon! Otherwise, majority won’t even buy T5 premiums from now on. 12000GS for 1 ship or basically 6 ships for the price of 1? Answer is simple.
We can wait for another year, if needed. The choice is yours.

Pretty much this - some of us are pretty annoyed about the way this sale happened. I’m certainly put off putting any more money into this game, as I feel treated pretty unfairly having missed this sale.

Well, I learned about this sale from Ravendark. There was no announcement on Steam news, so if he wouldn’t have told me, I wouldn’t have known about it.
Anyway, damn good sale, but damn too short and under the radar. It lasted less than 24 hours, more like 18, if not even less.
Exactly. I play pretty much every day, and still missed it…
wall of text
I can agree that 300 and 3000 games won’t make big difference in some player’s gameplay, BUT make it atleast 300… There are lots of pilots with ~50pvp games, few 100 pve which bring less than 4 ships to T5 and mostly only T5 is premium, other 3(if they were nice enough to bring them) are T1-3

when I checked DLCs on gaijin web site there was timer counting down from 3h

9th of may, is that the 1951 celebration day?
i liked the sale because it gave players who have been in this game but seen even more expensive stuff introduced after spending a lot of money on it, could stock up. i didn’t like the lack of announcements.
i really hope however, they continue giving such sales.
even if i agree to the tier rushing part, which could be avoided, if there is no squad vs squad restriction in the MM in T5 anymore, and requires 4 ships to participate. think about it, it would make endgame feel like endgame.
That’s implied in my second necessary change. They need to have 60% of the T4s max synergy before they can unlock T5 ships (premiums included).
60% is too much, in fact scrap that idea all together.
They need only gain a ship of a certain rank within a faction to unlock a tier’s premiums.
If you force people to stay within a tier, they will leave.
I personally stayed in T2 for most of my game time, and, one day, I decided to simply skip the tiers straight into T5, via the credit line, of course, but mostly with bought synergy, so it was basically the same thing as skipping with a premium, but a little bit worse.
Anyways, I don’t resent it, else I’d probably still be in t2, without my beloved realistic mode to boot…

Better yet, the sale should last until all of the globe has finished new years as well. 2 days.
Starting from the first new year.
60% is too much, in fact scrap that idea all together.

60% probably is too much, yes, but the idea provides an easy way to prevent tier-rushing.
The current state of unlocking premiums makes it far too easy to tier-rush, and that sale made it even easier. ($8 a premium).
I proposed the idea of a minimum ship requirement that would prevent tier-rushing and overall improve gameplay in T5, because after all, that is what all of us veterans would like to see.
I think the better version of my idea would be have X% of the ships in a tier unlocked and synergized to the point where they unlock the next ships (just like the system now), and once that percentage was reached, the next tier would open up. Heck, even add premiums to the count, but allowing people to buy their way to T5 without learning any of the essential skills and tactics in the low-mid tiers will ruin the game even faster than forcing people into tiers (as it is already ruining the game).
($8 a premium).
Elite pilot DLC >> $30 >> 25k gold
you could get 9x T5 + 3x T4
so premium for <3$
