New Ship Roles

If there was a new type of ship what would it be like?

Some of my ideas are:

Parasite

Duplicator

Teleporter

The Parasite ship would be half the size of an interceptor with 2 weapon turrets. It would have no shielding but the same amount of hull strength. It would have a slightly better manuverablity and speed than an interceptor.

The Parasite ship special module would be to attach to any ship allied or enemy within 100 meters. When it attaches the host’s energy, hull and sheild now become your hull and shield as well. Only one Parasite ship is allowed to be attached at one time. The host ship would have a symbol stating that it has a Parasite ship

It’s active modules would either to buff or debuff the host ship. They would be ongoing like how an Engineer ship has AOE Hull and Sheild regen.

Some Parasite active modules would be:

Tier One Modules

Speed Assistor - Increases host acceleration by 5% and top speed by 3%.

Speed Crippler - Decreases host acceleration by 5% and top speed by 3%.

Tier Two Modules

Weapon Assistor - Increases host main weapon firing rate and damage while decreasing cooldown time.

Weapon Crippler - Decreases host main weapon firing rate and damage while increasing cooldown time.

Tier Three Modules

Self Destruct - Destroys both yourself and your host.

Edit: you would think by T3 no one would be so stupid as to kill an ally but it should be disable when on an ally host.

Tier Four Modules

Total System Takeover - Allows you to control the host ship for 20 seconds. Has a cooldown time of 2 minutes. Useful for getting your Ace ally out of a jam or destroying enemy ships when your enemy host is within enemy lines

Role:

To help allied ships giving the host buffs and adding two extra turrets or to cripple enemy ships. You will always control your two turrets so you can get your own kills to.

The Duplicator ship would have around the same stats as an interceptor.

It’s Special Module allows it to create 2 fake copies of itself. They will fly around your target without your control and shoot at it without doing any real damage. This makes it hard for your target to decide which one is the real one and it will confuse your target.

Duplicator ship modules are much like ECM and Tackler modules with a few exceptions.

Some are:

Tier One Modules

Mass Target System Disabler - Disables targeting systems of all enemies within a 1500 meter radius. Has a lengthy cooldown

Tier Two Modules

I can’t remember the name - Slows down the target. Needs a clear line of sight

Tier Three Modules

Optical Illusion - Adds another fake copy when the Special Module is activated

Tier Four Modules

Mobile Drone Copier - Unleashes a drone that attacks enemies with plasma damage doing 50 damge per second. It makes a very real copy of itself every minute until there are four. Once it is used it cannot be used again until every single drone is destroyed

Tier Five Modules

Optical Attacker - Removes the targets abilty to see all of your allied ships for 30 seconds from the visual spectrum.

Role:

Confuse your target and hamper the enemy teams ability to fight back.

The Teleporter ship has the same stats as a Fighter but has the inabity to move forwards, backwards, or strafe. It can rotate though.

It’s Special Module allows it to teleport anywhere it is facing 500 meters forwards. It has a cooldown time of 7 seconds.

Some Teleporter modules are:

Tier One Modules

Allied Teleporter - Choose any allied ship and teleport it anywhere on the map. Brings up the map then you just click where you want it to go. A screen will show up asking the ally if it wants to be teleported or not. The ship can cancel at anytime. Has a lengthy cooldown.

Tier Three Modules

Enemy Teleporter - Freezes both you and the enemy ship and invulnerable while you choose where it goes within a 3000 meter radius. The ship has no choice. The module will shut down in 10 seconds if you do not choose. Useful to send a ship into your allies so they can destroy it or just to save yourself for a few seconds. Has a lengthy cooldown.

Post your ship ideas too. I’m not sure if the devs are interested in making new types of ships but it won’t hurt to post.

On topic: personally, I feel that the game has a nice mix of ship roles already.

May I direct everybody’s attention here? Someone created a newer version of Comic Sans.

self destruckt on host, destroys the allied ship and yourself, so literally you can go attach to ur teammates at kill them.

There is nothing about this post that would enhance game experience.  The host ship?  What would that pilot’s job be?  They just rack up points for no work?  Revise and resubmit, but without pointless ship classes.  The game classes are fine, they just need to be “balanced” like any developing game.

May I direct everybody’s attention here? Someone created a newer version of Comic Sans.

I vote for tweaks for the current classes, not for new ones.

Unique T5 isn’t a New role or a new classe of ship.

Are you sure? Because, as is every tier is “unique” already in their ship models, so to me, making more ships of the same roles with another ship model for free doesn’t make sense to me.

Technically, every ships are unique xD

I will be nice if new roles/classes appears but we can’t predict this kind of thing. 

Make a ship that meows when it fires missiles.  In fact, the missile should be this:  tumblr_lj0wls8poh1qb9bjho1_400.gif I would prefer this instead of any of the “new classes” of ships.  I joke, of course.

all fancy and that…if there is a need for new role, take a step back. role like basic interceptor, basic fighter and basic frigate. wich would be a sort of mix of every role in its family but without special modules. basic stuff you know…

The duplicator and teleporter are silly, but actually with some thought the parasite might have a chance with extensive modification.

One of the more common suggestions is 2 person controlled ships, but it’s invariably shot down because of implementation issues. Having the two players spawn as separate ships and combine voltron style might actually be a way of implementing it.

Make the Parasite only able to bond to friendly ships (gunships, commands and frigates only methinks - double firepower interceptors might be a bit OP, and cloaks would be a sticking point). The host ship retains exclusive flight control and all of its original turrets and abilities. Since none of those ships are stealthy that should take care of most of the griefing possibilities.

 

It’s still plagued with issues though. Balancing would be a major one, since adding a turret with unrestricted firing to the rear would neatly remove the main achilles heel of frigates and seriously help fighters against interceptors. The ability to essentially fit double the active modules on a single ship could allow you to make stupidly stacked builds unless you were very careful, like a completely unkillable guard or command or a gunship with completely insane burst damage. Making actives work slightly differently based on the host ship might work, so defensive modules are less effective on guards and engies and offensive modules less effective on LRFs and gunships. I also can’t see it being a very popular role except for novelty since people that get in to this game usually like flying around. So yeah, I still can’t see it happening.
