Don’t you think it would be a little… you know… WAY too OP? Activate that on a beacon, throw in some singularity balls, ‘i win button has been pushed’.
I don’t think such a mod can honestly be thrown in for combat use; high stats will make it OP, low stats will make it useless or simply rather annoying than effective.
At least those are my thoughts.
But if you like black holes, i already made some map suggestions which would include them and have certain effects on in-game physics.
The black hole can be damaged so there is no worries about it i think the black hole should have something about 1500 hull.
Well, that would make it indeed viable, but 1500 hp is a 1-shot for some guns. And yea, it’s basically a ‘damage it to disable it’ but we should refer to the mechanic of getting rid of it as ‘overloading’ it with matter / energy. Hmm, 1500 hp could work and when it reaches it’s limit it explodes for some damage? What do you think?
Also i’d probably change the name of the mod, something with ‘vacuum’ maybe? ‘Black hole’ doesn’t really fit imo.
Just re-checked and 231 m/s escape velocity is a tad too low unless the acceleration is altered while affected.
PS: teams will have to decide if to shoot it or not if it deals damage depending on how many friendly ships are there lol, this would be hilarious!
Get rid of the damage and only have the gravity pull, but nothing overkill. Just make it so flying’s difficult. Have you considered what affect this would have near a beacon? Place one near a beacon, the other team comes in and gets sucked in. Maybe they can get a beacon capture before they all die.

Read before posting. Yes, it has been thought.
I agree with the ‘no damage dealing while active’ part, but i would keep the final explosion if the enemy team decides to deny it. If it reaches it’s time limit it fades without blowing up. This should also clear up Jacxis’ concerns and mine as well on a second thought (more generally taken, not just jeri ships).
I’m still hovering between which frig mod it should be: engi, guard or sniper. Looking at effects, i think it suits the guard better. It could also feel better in LRF hands since they have a poor choice of mods, however their only use would be self-defense since they are away from the battle. Somehow i just don’t feel it on engis, not to mention the plethora of active mods they already have: barriers, energy regen, warpgates, 6 different repairs…

God. xxxx. Damnit. I hate that ship! Is it still op’d as all hell? As in, can it still survive a full Level 10 Capital flotilla with minor hull damage?
I’m surprised that no one has yet mentioned that this could be used by coordinated people with high damage, aoe modules and weapons e.g. nukes, anomaly generators and the self destruct module.
I’m for the idea and I do see potential for it in game. Any damage it does should be low but it should have a significant affect on thrusters (mainly acceleration; speed to a lesser extent) and the ship’s ability to rotate and strafe.
I would like to see a module with the opposite effect actually. Some kind of propulsion bomb that shoves ships away from a single point to scatter enemies and possibilty put people out of position. Could be effective to fight frigballs (so we can nerf singularity guns to a more reasonable dps and not deal with frigballs)

Because Guards with Propulstion Inhibitors don’t create a big enough afterburner denial area?

Yep. Phase Jump in the right spot + The Maw at the right time = surprise butt secks. I went for it at first just cuz it reminded me of freespace the babylon project and a giant space nyan catfish (don’t tell Miaw about it). Then i noticed my fleet was made of raging godly dragons and the enemies were tiny ants and was like ‘oh! i like it!’.
And the posts after this quote - the purpose is more to ‘drag ships in the middle’ i thought? Not to necessarily add another motion inhibiting effect… sort of a crowd control like the guard mod.
In my opinion the black hole should damage abit i’ll editing the damage so i think it should be 100 or something like that each second because you know real black holes when you come closer to it you start to feel that the gravity is making you splat like a pancake. I think that effect should damage the ship.

Well you cannot drop a ‘real’ black hole either, if you do, pray you’re house is far enough because that thing won’t fade in 30 seconds, it will keep on pulling stuff in untill it overloads and kablooey!
So the end suggestion is a small version, a gazillion times smaller than nano version of it, and that wouldn’t have such catastrophic effects. Forgot to ask, which tier? In T3 there’s jeri rank 9 implant making collision damage be taken by the shields first which gives it a whole new level of survivability.
Don’t bother bringing realism into this. There is nothing realistic about SC. A realistic black hole would suck in all railgun particles and curve the lazors, along with a ton of other dramatic effects that aren’t really accounted for anywhere else in the game. Forget the blackhole idea, and push for gravity manipulation devices that suck ships towards a point or push them away from a point. (Speed is +/-) depending on direction traveling
