Personally, I would love to see them be a little more creative with the special abilities. Right now you have 1. The standard ability that nobody will choose, 2. The improved standard ability that is better than the original in every stat, 3. The unique ability that adds a special effect onto the original stats.
Which really only leaves pilots with 2 options, since it would be rather silly to go with the standard special when option 2 is always better.
Actually, if you look closely at the “standard” ability, it has bumped up stats in specific areas. I would love a diffusion shield that could take a 50:1 dmg/energy blast.

Fox, what I meant was, when crafting a special ship, one of the variations on the special ability is just Default Ability 2.0 which is an all-around better version of the default one. Which means there is absolutely no reason to stick with the default ability.
We can only hope for them to have good passive bonuses. Why would you want a Cov Ops when Grey Falcon, Falcon-M and Golden Eagle are already good?
A 3 Adaptive Cov Op would be interesting to see though.
I want to see the Fed Tackler. If it has Railgun bonuses I’d buy it. If it doesn’t the already existing Tacklers are pretty good.

Side note, Storm Viking has to be better than Caltrop. That said I have not built a Caltrop yet.
(Edit) minus the three adaptives part, that would not be intresting for anyone other than who would be piloting it, and tacklers. Even then the implant to stop engine suppresion would still make the ship more nuts.

If you don’t like that then listen to this idea. After the Command’s Diffusion Shield is depleted or finishes it’s work cycle then it bursts out an EMP that slows energy regeneration. It would affect ships from a radius of about 1000-1500 meters. Energy Regeneration penalty would be decided by developers.
Here is the accompanied lore. The “Insert Command Name” has the option to send out an EMP that affects enemy ships. Right the EMP is sent, the command ship sends out a message that shuts down electrical function for an indistinguishable amount of time to all allied ships to protect them from the EMP. This brief stoppage of machines is so small that previous work keeps going.
