New basic OS guide.

The long-awaited OS update is here, and the wait was worth it, bringing a brand new campaign, more rewards, more sectors, more farming, more awesomeness, this guide will give you a brief heads-up upon what you can find in the new and improved sectors, along with some other tips to help you survive out there, it’ll be worth it, trust me.

 

-Starting tips-

 

 -First things first, we have the ores, or regular ores as we will call them, they have the normal loot pool, vanadium, graphite, silicon, osmium and crystal shards, they don’t drop credits any more, which means that the 100 credits drops are gone, hopefully forever.

 

-Some sectors can drop only one type of ore, that can be good or bad depending on your intentions in there.

-Containers that spawn around drop credits or ammo, premium and craftable ammo only including resonating ammunition.

 

-Pirate stashes are like the Mysterious containers, yet their drops are better, unlike the mysterious containers they are green on the Spatial Scanner, thus being harder to make out from other containers or ores.

 

-Enemies drop weapons and modules, in order to know where to find them you will have to consult the Atlas, but for your convenience I’ve taken my time to put everything in here.

 

-Weapon and module drops go for every NPC in most sectors, cargo ships and the police might not be your best bet tough.

 

-Killing law enforcement(enemies you can’t normally kill with PvE mode on) will decrease your karma, they will be hostile against you if your karma level is -2 or lower.

 

-The enemies are the typical ones, Pirates, AIs, Cartels, Cybers and Aliens(also referred to as Crystallids)which are further divided in Scouts, Biomorphs, Hunters and Predators.

 

-There are stations that you might be tasked to destroy, not as large as the ones you undock from, tough.

 

-Warping around via warpgates doesn’t use up fuel any more, there is no fuel to worry about, you can travel through all sectors in one go without stopping.

 

-You can warp to the desired sector anywhere else on the map from any place using iridium, no matter the distance the cost is the same, 5 iridium, this is the only way that you can visit certain sectors, we will refer to most of them as neutral sectors.

 

-You can also warp to any station and sectors owned by your corporation from any place for free, changing stations is now free too, returning to hangar is also free, there is no need to self-destruct anymore.

 

-Cargo drones are not sitting near gates anymore, they are now “cleverly” hidden throughout the sectors, luckily this guide will cover their locations too, there are 23 known locations so far, this guide will provide you with their coordinates(in order to view the coordinates you are at you have to press F11, it will cycle between not showing anything, to showing FPS and Ping, and to showing FPS, Region and coordinates, the three sets of numbers after Camera are your coordinates, the typical X Y and Z)

 

 

-Suggested ships and builds-

 

In order to move around quickly you will need a Recon, or a Gunship with the Deimos engine or Kinetic wave, in order to farm enemies you can use a wide variety of ships, in order to tag them and have a long reach you can use a long-range laser along with increasing your radar range to help scoop out enemies a lot easier, the Focusing laser would work great, combine that with a Deimos engine and an Auto-repair and you got yourself a perfect all-rounder ship for OS, the best example is Stingray, but its low rank won’t allow you to have certain characteristics, if you want a more dynamic ship you can use Tai’Kin, a Tai’thaq will help take out multiple enemies at once by tagging them, its considered a premium and it will have 2 extra cargo spaces, you also have a free respawn, but you will still have to pay for the repairs, as for the Covert Ops you can use the Front blaster, now that it has a tiny bit of an rotation angle and autoaim it will help much more to hit enemies, considering that they won’t bother too much with dodging you can use the Supernova deflector and a doomsday missile to get rid of them quicker, the premium for that is Golden Eagle, but it doesn’t have a hull slot which means no extended hull, which means you would have one less slot.

 

Most of the damage types that you have to worry about are kinetic and EM so get as much kinetic and EM resistances as possible depending on the sector you want to farm, there are very few enemies dealing thermal damage, the most common ones are alien frigates’ pulsars, but I’m sure you know better than dying to that, right?

 

-Sectors-

They are divided in 3 factions, Empire, Federation, Jericho and the Neutral sectors, they have different characteristics as well as difficulties, they also have their own little background stories now, worth reading, currently there are 71 known sectors(excluding corporate shipyards).

This one needs a lot of explanation, it’s basically a disputed sector between the Empire and the Enclave(a pirate faction), there is an influence mechanic which will be influenced by the enemies you kill and the tasks you do.

What can be found here:

Regular ores, beacons, a station for the Empire and the Enclave each with varying sizes depending on the influence, kinetic and missile turrets, and pirates which include a Boss ship, an experimental destroyer which is very powerful, do not engage it unless you know what you’re doing!, enemies drop credits of varying values, and materials including advanced ones like the processing block, the experimental destroyer drops 2 cortical columns, and sometimes an item that grants you iridium.

Another thing of note, doing the tasks that are offered to you will grant you a reward in credits and points to the faction(currently you can only earn them for the empire), some can be accomplished without being prompted, for example capturing the beacons and destroying the experimental destroyer, which are a great source of credits.

And with that I will conclude this guide, as a last note I’m aware that this wasn’t a very in-depth guide about the new open space, there are still some things I’ve got yet to cover but for now this will act as a basic guide to help people find stuff easier without scrolling through the atlas, but as soon as they will add a search bar to that then this might not be as useful, if there are going to be more things that are going to get changed or discovered I will update the guide as soon as I can, anyway, hope you found this useful, I wish you the best of luck in surviving out there, over and out.

Yeah, should have probably mentioned something like that, still better than leaving everything spread out and have people scroll through it, also, little update, added another viable build for farming.

I expected a lot more from this update and especially from Open Space rework which wasn’t what they promised us.

I thought that all the sectors will be resized and reworked, the only good thing that we got, was a decent change at Ellydium, the rest is practically the same.

Most backgrounds should have been changed. This is space after all.

I would like to see Cargo Bots back on their spots near Jump Gates. Also, Cargo bots should be marked to see them from the distance allowed by your ship’s scanner.

Little update, sectors with a " * " have cargo drones in them.

Created a map showing the drone locations based off xXThunderFlameXx’s post, the numbers have been rounded off a bit to make it easier to remember the locations but it will still put you within a few meters of the drone

Moving and hiding the drones was one of the bad parts of this patch. If anything they should have added a glow ball to highlight them instead.
