NASA found water on Mars (Discussion)

Is there any lifeforms? How do you think?

Is it horror?)

there is a chance that there is some form of photosynthesising life form, but the chances are it’s hardly pas the microbial stage. The odds are really stacked against life. There is liqud saline water, but at the same time there is a very thin atmosphere, meaning large doses of radiation from the sun. The atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide though, but since it is so thin, any life form would have to dedicate almost all of it’s available resources to photosynthesizing with the thin atmosphere and reduced light.

but, you never know. one thing is for sure - no little green men. more like miniscule green blobs - something like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_bacteria

I bet we can find cockroaches, if we look hard enough.

Dolphins. I’m fairly sure. Where else would they have gone?

Better get your dreads ready, before NASA takes the sector.

Yeah, you know what, there is Oil on MARS, and Martians use weapons of mass destruction, there is no way we can leave things as they are, can we? We must deliver democracy!

It kinda looked like the Me Gusta meme… need some PS skill here for comparison.

The Martian’: Ridley Scott Says He Knew About NASA’s Water Discovery on Mars “Months Ago”

xD

Even if there are any microbiotic lifeforms, trying to go there in person is not a bright idea. There is a chance for our Sun to say “fk you” and emit solar flare, that even on Earth with strong magnetosphere it breaks fragile electronics. On Mars, with very weak magnetosphere its serious danger for astronauts.

slowpoking here but at least three of the people on the announcement committee are geology experts and a couple of them even wrote papers about the possibility of water on mars. If you thought it was going to be anything other than a water announcement, it’s because you don’t do the detective work,

  • A new route to India milord! We will navigate trough the west ocean and get there!

  • But but is dangerous! No one did it before and the earth is not a ball is a dish! You will fall over!

More than 600 years later you should still say thanks to that crazy italian guy and his “dangerous” idea.

Apart jokes: solar flares, and many other problems like long time isolation and a tons of other things that can go wrong are real treats but:

We HAVE to go there.

Exploration it’s not a safe task indeed, but it’s still always worth it.

We HAVE to go there.

No, we don’t have to go anywhere, especially if it won’t make a buck.

I do agree, though, at least in the realm of you can only find so much gas in your garage, only so much food in the pantry, eventually you have to go to the gas station and supermarket and that is not even getting into major disasters.

For us, the first step was coming up with a reason to put a colony on the moon, and now we’re on the step of devising a logistically acceptable method of doing that.  Once we have successfully colonized the moon and established infrastructure, we will have the platform to begin looking at ways to make the logistics of colonizing mars viable, which may very well rely on mining fuel from the moon and basing our manufacturing for the mars project there.  If we manage to establish post scarcity before we begin a serious effort to colonize mars, then maybe our priorities as a species will change and we will look at mars as a method to spread our eggs out of one basket instead of purely profit.

Humans are by nature lazy and selfish. If they can’t make a quick buck, it would take some whip cracking and that could be considered political suicide. Nobody these days cares about the moon, they’re too busy watching jersey shore, getting fat,  following justin bieber on twitter, and blogging about first world problems like “equality” so they can feel like good people, while people in other countries starve or are forced to wear potato sacks because of their gender, or are killed outright for their gender preference, or are horribly mutilated or even become victims of genocide over what tribe they come from or the color of their skin or their religion. They have neither the attention span, nor desire to approach anything even resembing a selfless and significant step towards the betterment of our species, and the few that do are often powerless to do anything.

This is why, I honestly wish russia success in their endeavor to colonize the moon, why I hope it ignites the spark of competition in the hearts of other countries in a way that amounts to more than petty mud flinging.

Problem with space elevator is that they’re unstable and all it takes to destroy it is a missile to the base, gravity sucks.
