My Ping Lately

A second later it jumped to 1800…

What server and where are you playing from? I’ve had it jump to 2k before, but shortly after I disconnected due to my connection on my end. Also had it that high when I had torrents running. Never when SC was the only program open though. Highest I’ve gotten is around 300. It would also be a good idea to see how strong your connection(MB/s) and what % of bandwith SC is using.

Europe Server playing from EC USA

How to check connection and bandwidth?

At those FPS your ping is probably more influenced by your CPU not being able to process network packets fast enough than your actual connection speed

You don’t do it via the client. On Windows 7 if you go into the task manager, select the networking tab and look at the section that has all the adapter names(i.e Local Area Connection) you’ll be able to see how many MB/s your computer is getting and what % of that is actually being used. For example: If you have 1600 ping with 100 MB/s, but you’re only using 1% then it’s a problem on your side since you can’t supply(for lack of a better word) the game with enough bandwith for a steady connection. If you have a high MB/s and you’re using a decent amount then it’s probably the game’s awesome netcode and you’re SOL.

We have someone in out corp who has the exact same issue, but determined it was his router. He hasn’t gone out to buy another one yet, but all other troubleshooting methods haven’t helped. Oh and if it somehow is your CPU you should be able to test that by playing SC on another computer and having your ping be fine.

His FPS is a problem, but a weak CPU wouldn’t affect his ping. I’ve dropped to 12 FPS(via the options setting) and still have around 40 ping. Even outside of being alt-tabbed my ping doesn’t change when my FPS goes from 30-60.

taskmanager shows network adapter speed, which has nothing to do with his Internet speed. And of course does CPU affect ping. Everything that needs the CPU is affected by it, that’s a no brainer.

I have 65 Mbps. Supposedly 300 is minimum for good performance gaming so i’m going to by a wifi USB adapter.

I will give network uti. when i am in a match

No way 300 is the minimum. I play plenty of online games with wifi and have 52 Mbps. I play SC on wireless and I get 42 ping on USA server, 100-115 on Euro and 150-200+ to Russian. 300 mbps is a lot. I’d also try out http://www.speedtest.net/ If it’s reading 65 you should be fine.

You can have over 9000 Mbps and still have a bad ping. Just saying.

Of course, but then he’d know if it’s client side or not. If you had over 9k that’s likely an issue on their server. We’re trying to see if he can fix his ping himself.

If it was an issue on their server everybody would have it.

Exactly. The only question is: is it due to his computer or his modem/router? Unless a part suddenly failed or he’s put up with this for awhile it’s more likely to be his internet connection just because of how fickle internet can be compared to a CPU. But we’ll know once he troubleshoots.

UTI is 9%-11% in Europe Server

Which means you’re downloading pr0n while you play. Stop doing that and your problems go away.

I don’t and I have 140 ping and 20% packet loss on RU. And then 200 ping and 0% packet loss on USA. How do you explain that?

What has that got to do with Efefay using 6.5 Mbps bandwidth while playing?

EVERYTHING

EVERYTHING

I bow before your superior argument.

Obviously.

If it was an issue on their server everybody would have it.

Everyone does have it: Confirmed: Ping has jumped in the last few days, and lag spikes and PAC loss: there have been multiple posts in other language forums also. This topic is almost turning into a running gag. Snib, people are even using your analyzer to show the errors. Then everyone jumps on to explain how we don’t understand how network operate and nothing gets done about it. May as we’ll close all posts about ping as soon as they get started.
