EVERYTHING
That’s an accurate representation of my face when I was writing that post.
duh i get maximum 900-950 kb/s download but actual speed is 7 mb download, since its not fiber we just get max 950kb/s out of it on nearby servers, and 100-200kb/s upload but in reality its around 750 kb/s
yolo, i cant see how cpu has to do much with internet
if you got crappy FPS your game will lagg with 5 ping, so ur answer is really irellevant snib. hah
just opening a browser would take 10x more cpu load than actually doing the internet within SC, not SC itself.
here we talk intel pentium cpu or worse, like 20 bucks worth of cpu today.
and i get 60 fps on EU/Russian servers, you dont need shitload of internet to get a decent ping.
Oh common guys, clearly he needs more RAM
Efefay, just download some extra here http://www.downloadmoreram.com/
No way 300 is the minimum. I play plenty of online games with wifi and have 52 Mbps. I play SC on wireless and I get 42 ping on USA server, 100-115 on Euro and 150-200+ to Russian. 300 mbps is a lot. I’d also try out http://www.speedtest.net/ If it’s reading 65 you should be fine.
you do realize 52Mbps shows the maximum download speed for ur whireless internet right,
this is not ur real internet speed.
its like biggest facepalm, normal cables does 100 mb/s and whireless 52, if its not 54?
you hold mouse on whireless and it says 52 mbps
goto speedtest.com if you wanna check ur internet speed dude.
so frking facepalm all of you

if annyone would buy this, it would make my day.
Free RAM is free.
Everyone does have it: Confirmed: Ping has jumped in the last few days, and lag spikes and PAC loss: there have been multiple posts in other language forums also. This topic is almost turning into a running gag. Snib, people are even using your analyzer to show the errors. Then everyone jumps on to explain how we don’t understand how network operate and nothing gets done about it. May as we’ll close all posts about ping as soon as they get started.
Not confirmed. I don’t have ping spikes. Ever. My ping is rock steady. Always. I’m not saying you guys don’t have it but since we’re likely on different networks that’s where I’d look for the culprit.
Packet loss I do sometimes get on Russian servers. Plus always server lag to varying degrees.

packet loss usually only occur if you get around 250 ping +
i never see more than max 2% packet loss with 60 ping on russian servers
Free RAM is free.
u can actually goto google, and check out amd’s way of making hard drive space into ram
you can actually download free ram and use more of ur hdd into ram, not by much but a couple gb’s
but best solution is buying 16 gb ram, then you have enough ram for 5 years atleast. ram is cheap aswell compared to other things ,) and 1600 mhz seems to be best for games, not 2100 + also not 1880

Sry Snib, I wasn’t really trying to disagree as much as make a point that its a wide ranging problem that nothing gets done about. We debate this over and over with everyone trying to show they know more about networks than the next guy then the topic gets shoved down until next week.

ahem…
And this occur from minute 1 to end of the match on every single game on russian server. “Low” ping, and high packet loss.
Even my +200 ping on USA has 0% packet loss.

Well, sure, nevertheless I stand by my suggestion that downloading stuff averaging 6.5 Mbps is the likely source of Efefay’s personal ping spike issues, i.e. the actual topic of this thread.
That the netcode and server distribution are far from perfect is different topic that I agree with (I abandon every session on US/SEA servers because I cannot play there) but let’s solve Efefay’s problem first.
I know almost nothing about computers or networking.
I thought RAM is hardware. How is it possible to download RAM?
Also people are talking about different scales of Mb/s. I’m planning to buy 300Mb/s WiFi USB Adapter. Then I see people here and elsewhere on the Internet using low numbers for Mb/s.
All this stuff is confusing me to no end.
I don’t know how computer parts affect things and what are good numbers to have for parts. I am the first and only person in my house that enjoys gaming. I have no IRL friends who are knowledgeable. Things I read online are not always trustworthy (ie Uhmari).
I am a total n00b when it comes to this so please don’t troll me.

Yeah it’s starting to get very annoying too. Almost every game for me is on RU servers no matter if I choose EU or US. 170-180 ping with 5-10% packet loss. These are games found within 30 seconds too so it’s obvious the client is ignoring server preference settings. Maybe this was their “quick fix” to help speed up the time it takes to find games.
I would like to see more games hosted on the EU servers though. The majority of players come from this region, and it’s a decent compromise between NA and RU players. Not to mention no packet loss what so ever.
Anybody know the IP address of the RU server so I can do a traceroute? Maybe we can find out which hop is causing the packet loss. If it’s a matter of confidentiality just private message it to me. 10 years of experience in the IT field here if that is even an issue.

Downloading RAM was a joke. And your Internet speed depends on the connection you rent from your ISP - upgrading your network adapter alone won’t do anything.

You can download my ping tester, it lists all 8 Russian servers and you can double click them to launch a trace route.
Using high speed internet package from the ISP with large bandwidth, get 6000 ms lol.

At the very least it has the IP addresses. Funny though how with your ping tester it never shows any packet loss, but sure enough in game it’s always 5-10% for RU. What packet size do you use for your pings? Larger packets take longer to transmit and receive and show packet loss better in my experience.

I’ve only seen the game send large packets during session setup, i.e. when you enter the map. But if you want to try, I added a checkbox to ping with large packets. Download it again to trigger the update (or wait up to 2 weeks for it to do it itself, it’s on a lazy update schedule).
