I think that the biggest lack i see is a tank. maybe I am playing this game wrong or using the wrong ships. But I like playing tank roles in games. There should be more clear cut options to give you tank > dps. for example. federation frigates dont really do anything. they arn’t really tanky. they aren’t really dps. they just dont “fit” as clearly as i see they should. the harpy is tanky but has huge dps “F” same with jericho. but the fed has… well ish support with ish tank that is easy to kill. its good to give 2 factions dps “F” and some tank. but give the 3rd none of the above tank or dps?.. this seems to be an issue.
for example. take % reduced damage dealt for % gain to tank or resistances. Maybe even move more to a hardpoint system that allows variation in builds. i do see some of this in t3 and t4 but i think better customizing builds and roles for ships could be used. for example
I think to many ships are bias to dps. even the “tanks” if there are any are more dps focused than “tank” focased. I think there needs to be more a selection outside of dps.
so i guess what im saying is that there needs to be some clear cut work done to the “roles” that are elusive to exist. ie give us a low dps tank that is a TANK. or a support that is weak but its hardcore support. give us more role options other than GOHAM or go home.
I also understand this is still being developed and this might be addressed next patch. but just my 2 cents

yes i understand that. but when was the last time you say someone be “tanky” in a slow ship. the fed are just slow and weak and dependent on support. were as harpy and jericho are better fit for fighting. or even being effective period with there “F”
dont get me wrong play fed frig’s as a mian. i just think they arn’t in line with what they should be.
Odd, have all 3 factions, and my vanguard frigs never really have a problem in manageable fights, cept when my anti missile system was on cool down and I got missile barraged. Then I took lots of damage.
Edit: manageable Meaning not 3v1. Although my current hydra has 4v1’d before. Yet to try on my t2 fed frig.

maybe i am playing it wrong then what ship do you use and moduals? i usually go lasers and sit back like 3000 off from the dog fights and just laser the weak ones as they dance around… any help on how to play them would be nice 
Hail plasma, implants set to either tank or just increase hull/shield, modules to support whatever my implants provide(passive mods and ship mods) and active shield or hull regen with anti missile and pulsar.
Get a feel for the ship, find that “groove” that fits the ship.
Personally I find the roles we give the ships based on their special modules to be more define then the ones suggested within the game. Which isn’t good, I mean a sniper that is from a faction that sounds like it has good tanks… It just sounds off to me, though I’m not saying that they are bad at the roles intended, but its players that would just focus away from it or something, that or complain how their ship sucks and how overpowered the others are that they don’t try to figure out a away to make it all work.
yea ive been working on the fed frigs for a while and i think i got a nice spot going but. they have to sit back and just play defense. and need team support. so far its decent. i think the fed gets good at t3 but the early tiers of fed are just awefull…

This is not a 2 d (semi 3d) game where you can block the path of the enemy with a tank.
I don’t even like the roles with diff. ships (mainly because sometimes my subfaction ship has an undesired role that i will never use)
