Minigun-style weapon for Fighters

This is something I would love to see in the game. Was very disappointed when I found out there were none already ._.

Basically a very high rate of fire rotary gun with high DPM and reduced range/fast overheat, similar to the real-world ‘minigun’ type weapons. Possibly a ‘spool-up’ time of a few seconds before the weapon begins to fire also? (for the sake of extra balance if necessary)

It would play a role similar to the Interceptor’s Pulse Laser. (857 dps monster)

Stats would look something like this;


Rotary Railgun 15

DPS (kinetic): 750 dmg/s

Damage (kinetic): 90

Rate of Fire: 500 rounds/min (with visual/audible effects to make it feel faster like a real minigun)

Critical Chance: 10%

Critical Damage: 50%

Projectile Speed: 4,250 m/s

Firing Range: 2,250 m

Spread: 0.5 - 1 degree

Overheat/Cooling: 5s / 1.5s

This is not possible due to technical limitations regarding fire rate. Our limit was 300/min and we already upped it to 600/min, more would cause issues in the game.

Technical limitations as in server overload?

No. We have railguns already and that can get insane RoF with the right build.

I think Mezon Cannon is pretty much what here is asked for, with the exceptional of thermal dmg instead of kinetic

Ah, I see…that’s what I feared.

Well, how about if we change it to 600rpm doing 75 damage per hit, or 500rpm doing 90 damage per hit (both 750 dps), and just add sound/visual effects to make it feel, look and sound faster? ![:p](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/004.png “:p”)

Similar to how beam weapons only inflict damage every so often, rather than a constant stream of numbers as they would realistically.

Nah, it’s more of an auto-shotgun with long range, high spread, high projectile speed and long overheat - plus, it’s destroyers only. This weapon is designed to be a close-range weapon for fighters~ (command/gunship/tackler)

The ‘spool-up’ I mentioned would be different too; Rather than the meson cannon/heavy blaster slowly firing faster and faster over 3-5 secs, the ‘minigun’ would not fire at all for 1-2 secs as barrels spin up then fire at full rpm in a relatively short and accurate burst.

 

Sounds like you should be playing interceptors! The alien kinetic gun works like that, with an added effect that some of the damage bounces off onto nearby objects. Unfortunately it is not available in-game anymore since one of the resources (live crystals) cannot be obtained.

Permanently I hope. Having non-cosmetic stuff in-game that is unobtainable is VERY bad marketing techniques.

I get the High RoF limitation. A good exemple is a meson dd wing in SO. So much shells that the shard server can’t handle it and bugs out for the whole team. Untill i guess we end up 5-6 that stop firing and things come back to normal.

I mainly play interceptors actually ![:p](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/004.png “:p”) And I have wanted to try the alien weapon for them, but as you said, there is no way to get one besides buying the boxes for GS.

But this is also supposed to be something to make fighters in particular more diverse and more fun to play as well as just being a cool weapon~

Yeah I understand your suggestion! I enjoy my assault railguns. And when you overdrive with a gunship those things reach a devastating ROF. Have you ever tried a command ship with rails and three iridium heatsinks? You lose a lot of diffusion tank, but the damage is really nice. I was even better before they intorduced stacking penalties ![:(](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/003j.png “:(”)

 

So I dunno, a new weapon like that could be nice, but I’m not seeing a hole it needs to fill, as such. Got my gauss for charge weapons, and railguns for ROF. It could be an idea for one of those ship-specific weapons they are bringing in now.
