For cinematic purposes I suggest a “match speed” toggle that is an option in settings. This would allow you to lock on to allies regardless of loadout and press a hotkey to make your ship try to match and stay at their speed. After speed is matched, the user should be able to lock any other target without affecting their speed.
This would only be really useful when chasing down interceptors in a fighter or when trying to fly in a formation for recording. Everyone in the formation could just lock on to the slowest player and match speeds so they all fly at the same speed.
I would love something like this! This would not only be good for what your suggesting but also escorting transport ships in open space. It’s kind of annoying that I can’t do exactly the transport ships speed.

Check your keybinds for “increase speed” and “decrease speed” as it doesn’t work to a single m/s you can adjust your speed to be something between 98 and 102 on the fast ship and almost exactly 100m/s on slower ships.
Too much effects. I understand nothing of that video
The game has something similar to squads named formation, being in a formation allows you to receive buffs (same way as you do in OS) and to fly in formation; the leader of the formation turns into the leading ship (something like a carrier) where other pilots from the formation can “stick/anchor” to him and fire weapons. Doing this will make the formation leader to drive all the ships as one, or better sayed, all ships follow the leader.
Yeah idk why people think this “match speed” should magically make your ship go faster than it should ;p
It will just attempt a numerical speed using the ship’s normal characteristics. Afterburners must still be toggled by player though I’d think otherwise it’ll burn your energy
