No one seems to play realistic mode, and I don’t believe it is due to it being unfun. I like it, but don’t enjoy queing up for 5 minutes to get a fight full of bots. Why not just get rid of realistic as a separate que and redefine it into a mission that pops up in sector conquest?
Definitely support this idea, or at the least something along a similar mindset. Perhaps a modified version - one where each player has three lives, but can launch any of their ships they like (so you could use each once, one three times or any combination thereof). This would be a little fairer on the players who aren’t kitted out for a Realistic skirmish - ie: having a single decent Tier 2 and then filling the other two slots with Rank 1 ships.

No - 3 lives each. That way you don’t give an unfair advantage to the people who drop down to lower tiers to farm.
Oh, like having fully outfitted mk3 ships… compared to oh… mk1’s on a fresh ship isnt already an unfair advantage?
So next… it should force all ships to have equipment equal to mk1 as well then hmm? So that it can be fair…

- Anyone who isn’t smart enough to grind lower tiers to the point where they can afford to apply Mk II (or Military / Experimental loot if they are lucky) onto their ships deserves to be stuck with useless Mk I gear.
- Back when the Loot system was fair, players could quite happily grind PvE to get Military gear. This is “Tier 2.5”, and gives you a fighting chance.
- It takes a long time to get an “all blue” squadron. I’ve only just pulled it off.
- Even if you are flying a Rank 1 / 4 / 7 / 10 ship in Mk I gear, you can still be useless despite what is likely to be a rather poor end score. This is primarily because of infinite respawns. In a scenario where lives are limited, poorly-equipped players are more of a liability. If you then combine that with the fact that the superior-equipped players have an extra life you are going to get a scenario that a lot of players resent.
And that any of those better equipped players with their 4 slots wont play because it gimps their accomplishments.
How does it gimp their accomplishment? They have four ships to choose from as opposed to three, so they still have a better chance of winning because they can better tailor each respawn to the requirements of the mission at the time.
I know this probably didn’t cross your mind, but an important part of any PvP game is to cater to both ends of the spectrum. Giving veteran players more spawns makes it harder for the rookies not only to win, but to actually become veteran themselves. Despite what your typical CoD camper-clan will tell you, nobody learns anything from being farmed. You are proposing a game where you could, hypothetically, be playing a Realistic mode where one side has 24 lives and the other has 32. Nobody is going to want to play a scenario like that unless they’re wretched little troglodytes who want to farm and make their e-peen’s swell up.

Being a veteran gives you an advantage of having those 4 slots thus 4 lives currently, as does BUYING the 4th slot for gold standards.
Personally, your very one sided on this. Ive been on the team thats farmed, and the team thats been farmed.
Just give everyone 4 lives, that way the people like me who currently have 4 ship slots dont feel like were having something taken away, and for those that dont have it, they feel like they are getting a bonus. Plus that way the 3-4 person corp squad that enters into it, can just get that many more kills by farming the other group.
