Make missile warning sound interval dependent on missile proximity

I think it would be very helpful if the beeps of the missile warning were in intervals proportional or at least related to the missile distance, i.e. missile very far away every ~1s, missile within ~2km every 0.5s, missile within ~1km every 0.25s.

beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep,beep,beep,boom!

In case of multiple incoming missiles, consider only the nearest one. I feel this would help immensely both to know when to actually initiate evasive maneuvers when not having flares available and not wasting flares when a guided torpedo has been launched in one’s general direction some 10km away.

What do you think?

was thinking the same. this will indeed add to the skill aspect of combat.

+1 to OP, makes sense

this will indeed add to the skill aspect of combat.

Actually it’ll make things easier and require less skill since information you currently need to gather yourself by looking around/behind to visually acquire the incoming missile is handed to you for free. But it’s still a good idea.

Freespace 2 FTW! (it means ‘Yes, i agree’)

Dodging and chasing cruise missiles is fun, but the bleep is damn annoying, just keeps on going for 15-20 seconds x(

it would help understand the importance of evasion considering you can’t always see them coming. hear, hear +1

And you don’t know what direction so you don’t know which way to run to.  If I hear an alarm about an unguided torpedo, unless I can visually see it, I’ll probably ignore it.  There are too many false positive threats.

I like it! Do it!

+1

I like it. It would also create a sense of impending doom.

Immersion++; combined with something that’s actually useful.
