Lower Your Ping

I have a fiber backed Internet provider.

In all to get out of my state my ping is about 20ms on any test.

In Star Conflict my ping is upper 100s. Then comes the dreaded packet loss!

Finally, I became far too tired of this issue occurring at home. How can I pilot a Sai at 650 with packet loss? Off subject my son hates that ship because “All it does is goes in circles”.

I was able to greatly lower my in game packet loss by enabling Quality Of Service (QOS) for my computer on my router. I am going to very briefly cover the easiest way to implement this.

While I still get some packet loss, QOS has dramatically reduced this issue.

Before I begin, if your router is provided by your Internet people call them and ask them to enable QOS for a specific computer for you. They will likely remotely connect to your computer and do the entire process for you.

First get your computer’s MAC address.

Start > All Programs > accessories > Command Prompt.

In the black screen type ipconfig /all

Find “Ethernet Adapter Location Area Connection” record the “Physical address”. It is 12 numbers, hexadecimal so yes there will be “letters” too.

Those numbers will be used to enter into your router’s QOS section. I am going to post links to external reference sites for common routers.

If your computer is connected to a physical port, and you know which one it is you could use that to enable QOS also.

I would recommend against enabling QOS for ports or applications. There are too many ways to make mistakes using this method.

if you “break” your router, there is a reset button on the back or bottom. To set your router back to factory defaults press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Unplugg the power. With the reset button held down, plug power back in. After 30 seconds release the reset button and your router will be set back to factory defaults.

Again, don’t do this if your router is provided by your “Internet people”.

Nice information. +1

Still, nothing will save my CDMA interwebz :stuck_out_tongue:

No CDMA is not all too sexy for gaming. That’s what we get for being in the US…

If you are using a router, QOS likely will help.

If it is through a phone or a hot spot, positioning is key. Also, you could get an external antenna that can repeat the signal through the building you game in…

I’m betting there are some pretty cheap external antenna’s now days. cellularsolutions.com is a company that specializes wireless enhancement.

That is the reason I didn’t explain any of it.

There would be some rare situations where settings for windows itself would help, windows updates torrent sharing… Star conflict apparently uses port 80. Don’t forget that home versions you can not set QOS in group policy.

QOS on the router greatly helps the lag in this game. I can not stress that enough. I can tell when my wife connects with here new phone because I have not gotten its mac address in the router yet.

Because you say it is worth while I am going to attempt another gpedit install. I’ve done this a handful of times to find it take too much time. After about 15 minutes I assume it is not worth while.

DSCP stops at the first router without it?

I assume the packet is stripped of this information.

Does it simply not work at all if there is a single link between the two ends without support for it?

Most importantly, if I simply set a port priority in gpedit, it will automatically be ready for DSCP?

O, also have you been doing this for this game? I don’t care about phone systems. I’ve always setup QOS for phones.
