I asked for this before and wanted that engie gets more effectiveness so pplz will play it more´, but everyone laughed and said u get super much eff and s its ok as is is.
I agree. Engie (except when using the nano drone repair weapon) you can do some serious damage in. I use it like a cross between a guard frigate and a long range frigate. Get out, do damage, when hit hard, retreat behind cover and repair (and repair allies).
I think if you have the right modules, you can output more damage than a guard frigate.
Tbf, get in the top positions with an engie is not that easy, even for the op brokk or the good old octo. But for what I saw, at least in higher ranks, usually there are a quite decent number of players using it.

Ah I’m only at rank 8 mostly. I’ve got R11 ships, but I’m not using them much, simply because I’m not that good yet and I don’t know how to build ships really well either.

Well I mean it’s not as easy as when using an LRF or something, but you still get quite nice damage from main gun, you can easily get kills with EM torps, and the assists rack up points as well. Add on to that beacon caps and you can get decent scores in most games.
The [Phoenix NG](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/32586-engineer-phoenix-guide/#comment-389657) has the unique ability to select its Special module (‘F’ key) before battle. Two special modules are available:
* 3 Phoenix drones : unique alternative special module with the ability to switch drone operation modes. Up to 3 Phoenix drones with manual Attack/Repair mode switch. The drones attack a locked target or alternatively restore shield and hull. In ‘Recovery mode’ drones will restore not only shields but also the host’s hull. They won’t repair allies, but the repair effect is stronger, and the module is manageable more precise than that of its classic engineer auto-operation counterpart (see below). A switch to ‘Attack mode’ will make the drones start attacking the pilot’s locked target (or any enemy target nearby). The drone’s projectiles will reduce the target’s hull resistance to all types of damage by 5pts each for 5s. Hence, their attack power increases reciprocally with the target suffering from reduced hull resistances.
Name: Phoenix drones
Type: Special module drones
DPS: 764 EM
Damage: 917 EM
Rate of fire: 50 rounds/min
Firing range: 2600 m
Max number of drones: 3 pts.
Drone durability: 3339 hull pts.
Drone recharge period: 35s
Ship repairs: 120 shield&hull dmg/s
Energ. consumption: 50 en/s
Max resistance reduction:50 pts (5pts. each shot for 5s)
I would love to have these drones available to more Engineer frigates save the Empire Phoenix Pirate premium ship(already has them)!!!
What you think?
P.S.:
[Phoenix engineer ship with 5 drones : 3 special module drones (repair/attack) and 2 circling attack drones (missile slot)]
I like the idea that small autonomous little droids reach out bugging interceptors! Its more a personal favorite not an ultimate means of playing this game most effectively!
… Rennie, thank you for that ingenious name. You made my day:
“Ellyphant Engineer” !!!
P.S.: An Octopus secret project ship with that would be nice, also (taking into account the gragoyles, darts, dessys …).
Dont forget bout flying unicorn pegasuses shootin rainbows from youknowwhere to youknowwho and nobody will die on their watch lol
Consider enemy ship shield/hull weakening (multiple kill assisting by drones) and take probable special drones into account, like Ext. scanner drones, Microlocator drones, Mine drones…)
I do not know the situation in t5, but in t3, all the non-premium fed engineers are garbage, and that’s why no one flies them. Also, the frigate in general is pretty cruddy for securing kills. Outside of the long range sniper approach, in a frigate, it’s far too easy to get picked off if you attempt to close a kill. And that’s what I play for. That fancy blue text, “ENEMY DESTROYED” Basically unless you make them the most broken xxxx around, or give them really really cool mechanics that are as satisfying as landing a kill, no one is gonna play them. And even then, people still might not play them. The lack of a support playerbase is something you see across all games, and really there isn’t much you can do about it.
I have low ping and fps, so engi is good way of playing for me. I like the drones that spawn out of my ship, reparing and protecting from near enemies.
I like to support and stay away from hot dogfight, thats for the pro players. I like to be part of but not ranks champion…
And the Phoenix is an Empire engineer frigate (like r9 Styx) but has 2nd alternative special module “Phoenix drones” which are very effective against pesky interceptors (most of the time, though)…
And yes… I also get one-shot killed by Thargas - but also fromnormal fighter with gauss or what was it positron long range fighter weapon in vulnerable damaged state.
