I am also looking forward to this. I would really like to see color options for the reticle; or at least another go at a new design for it to be more noticeable.

Ill have to play with the red one as well but I am still sticking with my 2 color set up red/green.

Oh ya, here are the rough copies of the reticules I am currently looking at (and yes you had direct influence on this setup)
The different color back drops are just to test how well you can follow the ret no mater what the back drop. Tell me what you think.

I like the red/green in quarters. Dividing it up into eighths seems too busy. Though, if it were up to me, I’d stick to black and green.

that’s not the problem, the black is there to make an outline so the green remains visible wherever it points
what’s more to green, it’s a more strident color, harder to lose, especially on black
it’s only real problem would come from a green background of the same intensity, which black would cut out, and light fluorescent blue, which black cuts again
that’s why i suggested the outlined type, and not the double color without outlines because they complete each other, black for light surfaces, strident green for dark and it is the same 3/4 lines showing, not extras

This topic seems to be pretty much finished as well, so i guess it can be sent over with the other one? (unless already done)
I think we must keep the hud out of more gaudiness, it will be pretty enough just o make the aim circle bit thicker and with 1/2 less diameter.
The real problem to me, are the aiming squares around the ships. When you are looking from distance to some populated area, you can see only added-up on top of each other red squares, and you cant actually see the ships themselves. Those squares must be thinning when going away, and becoming more transpaernt when approaching.
In two words, i think there should be a way to make the hud indicate the distances of the ships, and the crosshair to be made more visible and easy to find in point-blank battles. And despite all, the HUD must became even more cleaner and simplified. Too many stuff not needed on screen.
P.s. Lets take this shot for example http://i.imgur.com/AphAXP4.jpg - there is zone, which have few enemy sheeps in one place. And it looks like they are in the same depth compared to my point of view, because of the aiming squares. But in fact some of the ships are almost very near, and some are very far away, as you can see from the screenshot. My point is, the ships’s aiming squares are stopping to become smaller after 2000m (or someting like that), which means if there are few ships(like in the screenshot) in one zone on your screen, but with different distances, you cant estimate their position, because of the aiming squares incapability to became smaller plus adding up the lines of the squares are covering the ships behind.
As i said earlier -those square’s lines must be thinning when going away(and vice versa), and becoming more transpaernt when approaching(and vice versa). I hope you understood me well, despite my english:D (What i mean with “square’s lines” is actualy the lines of those “edges”, which make the aiming square.)
P.s. 2 - The center square is pointless (plus the arrows, pointing towards the cursor), they are just making the hud more messy and troublesome, especialy when there is point-blank fight.

Agree with this one, and all others refering to the same improvements.
I totally agree we need a colored reticle, or at least the option to purchase various reticle options and colors.
Maybe been posted, didn’t read everything.
I know in most valve shooters, the reticle is white most of the time, but its more of a “high contrast zone.” Whatever color happens to be behind the reticle, it inverts, so the reticle is always a high contrast color, and can even be multiple colors if multiple are stuck behind the reticle.
Even if lasers or something are behind it, this would give the impression that it is flashing as the lasers pass through it, making it even more visible more consistently. HL and TF2 use this for sure, probably some other games as well.
yup this needs a fix asap… still losing my cursor after 3-4 days of playing… shouldn’t be happening, but since there is so much stuff gong on in space: lights, lasers, stars, etc… there’s just no helping it.
this game needs custom crosshairs, or at least a better selection, or something like jimbo’s crosshair from WoT.

While I doubt their writers would make good reticle makers, I too would like to see a better or even customizable/moddable reticle.
