Looting Priority in Open Space Mode

I have a suggestion regarding to looting in open space. Right know frigates and destroyers have a little chance to get the loot they fight for if there are fighters or interceptors around. Especially, when in a protected zone. Station protection defends weaker pilots, I understand, but it also propagates unfair behavior.

So, please make a feature that gives a looting priority to players in certain situations:

  • The killer of an NPC or Player has a priority to pick up the loot for a limited time.
  • The loot is marked (with colors e.g.) until the priority cools down. This mark is visible to anyone that can see the loot on their sensors. The one that has the priority should see a different mark (different color) than those that don’t have the priority.
  • If another pilot picks the loot up then that would get a mark (like thief or shame on you mark  above his ship like aggressors and criminals do. The pilot would become vulnerable to any players with or without protection in the sector. The killer of this pilot would get looting priority.
  • In case of a pilot with station protection picks up a marked loot that is not his ’priority’, that pilot loses protection until leaving the sector. This pilot would become vulnerable to any players with or without protection. The killer of this pilot gets looting priority.
  • Self destructing or dropping loot would not mark the loot that is left behind.
  • Fuel cells would not be marked in any situation.
  • A pilot that is killed by NPCs would get priority to his lost loot if he respawns within a limited time by using duplicator or the free respawn option for premium ships.
  • Pilots killed by other pilots would lose their priority to the lost loot even when this pilot respawns after being killed.

I think this system would make open space mode fair and it would support those who ’work’ for their loot and resources.

Edit:

  • Marked loot would become neutral:
    • priority holder dies before being able to pick loot up
    • leaves sector without picking up the loot
    • cool down time of priority runs out
  • ! I have to agree

I disagree. This only support killstealers and penalizing smaller ships.

Piracy is okay and being slow must have its disadvantages.

So stealing kills is not okay but stealing loot while hiding behind station protection is. I see.

But if you insist then lets put it this way:

The one who deals the most damage to the ship being killed gets the priority.

Bit in this case the pilot that dealt the most damage to a destroyed ship that drops the loot should loose the right to priority if he dies earlier or leaves the sector before the actual ship destruction and loot drop happens.

The current system is okay, because it doesn’t penalize anyone. Being slow is the ship’s disadvantage and not of the player. You can try to be close to the target to get the loot.

Changing it to kills make your cry even worse. Q.Q the guy just stayed around, let me do 99% of the damage and then he just shoot with his gauss/missile the target to death. What then? Another topic of changing how the loot is rewarded???

To damage: Why should I bother to the target if another have already done 50%+ of the damage? I don’t get a chance at the loot and just waste my time shooting it. Penalizing the player is in your both suggestions the only result.

The loot is free. Everyone can get it and having a ship with disadvantages is your choice.

I have to agree that the current system does not penalize anyone… when it comes to looting.

However, the whole philosophy behind OS mode is just off now.

Protect low rank players. Okay lets do that. Take away the last chance of fighting each other and let everyone fly around like zombies. (not that I would know how zombies fly but I think it is clear what I mean)

Give station protected players the ability to shoot at criminals or aggressors but the fire can’t be returned… how fascinating it is, right? Btw, there should be an option here that would turn off station protection when a player starts shooting at a criminal/aggressor too.

To be honest, the best would be if station protection would not exist at all. But until we get a single chance to fight for our loot at least just regulate the crab out of OS because it’s just pure boredom.

+1 that can be useful

Why you don’t fly in non-protected sectors? Problem solved by itself.

Destroyer… rank 8

Just got another idea for looting: an active module called ‘Cargo Signal Jammer’… or something like that. It could shield containers from being detected by others for a certain time.

But this was just an sudden idea.

Anyway, my point with this suggestion is to avoid making OS mode another version of PvE. PvE is good enough, especially with the new spec ops maps and the one stage PvEs.

Since we are kind of forced to do OS, why not make it less monotone and add some variety to it. People spend more and more time in OS than in PvP I think… although I can’t prove it but my experience is this. Especially when more manufacturable ships are coming.

Also, there are problems with PvP not having enough players. Give rare resources for PvP wins too. After every 10 or so wins give a monocrystal or neodium.

Support PvP by not drawing players away from it. Make OS freer by removing station protection and make it less regulated but in turn of making it more dangerous also give more valuable content for regular loot.

Agreed. There is no need for this. Also, there shouldn’t be any high-level safe sectors. So those that want to farm good loot need to take some risks.

(and does anyone even pick up those shi tty containers anymore?! they only drop 10k credits, even if you just killed a hunter!)

Rank 11 solve this.

Sure. What a BS solve. Why I shouldn’t stay with R15 ship and/or friends at the station and kill all the players try to dock or those that undock?

I did not say that I want high level safe sectors. On the contrary. I only want a chance to fight for the loot that I lost and respawned for in any sectors. My original idea only suggests another way to make a player vulnerable to other players (and only to them and not to NPCs like police, guards, etc), similarly to the aggressor status but with some changes.

And I do pick up a lot of loot from hunters, smugglers, transports and such. The iridium drop better than in PvP and salvaged stuff.

I don’t know If you have ever tried to kill others in the station area but the police won’t let you do it for long. 2-3 shots and you are done.

Nope. -1.

Open space has pirates. Pirates can be NPCs or players. Deal with it.

I have no problem with NPCs. Not even with pirating. My problem is the game allowing players pirating but not allowing others fight back. (in certain sectors ofc.)

Nupe. Although this would be nice, it would make for some troubling mechanics. I understand that killsteals would become prominent, but that could be solved by linking loot to whoever did the most damage. Also the aggressor status or thief status would just make it impossible to do anything. And the pickup timer would have to be very short or else this would get very annoying.

Well, we will see what this year brings to OS mode. I heard some reworks are coming.
