so the looting behaviour is easy, but i got some suggestions for that, how it could be better with the current implementation
-
directly looking/aiming at an item should bring it up into the activation menu, even if another one is closer.
-
once you start pickup / collecting / activating, another item coming closer should not cancel this behaviour
-
leaving the range or pressing loot again should cancel the pickup.
(any agreement?)
yes
often in a warp gate i cant pick up the items, i have to push them outside, wich damages my ship meanwhile im doing it
also trying to pick up many items at once. if you are not at 0 speed, it will keep changing item all the time.
An idea came up earlier to target the loot you wanted to pick up with the crosshairs. This needs to be done.

Agreed. I’d also add a request to up the collection range to 500 - 750 metres. It’s too easy to overshoot loot in faster ships, and in Interceptors you don’t want to sit still if it can be avoided.

That’s the point though. Picking up loot is a dangerous thing.

This. I don’t get these constant requests to make invasion space easier. It needs to be made way harder, it’s way too easy as it stands. Risk vs reward balance is totally off the scale, the only risk you have is a bit of travel time.
No. It does not need to be made harder. PARTS need to be made harder. The Frontier needs to be harder. Alien Space needs to be a LOT harder. But most of it is too hard.
Moreover, you are confusing difficulty and challenge. Having a 300m radius on a 3m object isn’t challenge, it’s irritation. This game is fun because it’s fast paced, arcade style combat. Having to carefully fumble toward a tiny metal box is at odds with this ethos. Looting should be fast and fun.

Quite literally the only risk besides landing in an unplayably laggy instance that I have zipping around in a 700 m/s recon in open space is looting something, and it’s not terribly risky as it stands as long as I keep my speed up while doing it. Make it even easier and that very last bit of a challenge goes away.
Although, come to think of it, invasion space is a massive no challenge farm fest anyway so might as well go through with your suggestion.
Freelancer had a button that pulled in everything in a big area. We can implement that. But right now, the fact that you have to fly around in a 600 diameter sphere, that makes picking up stuff more risky. And that is great. Why not have it?
Why not have it?
Because it’s no better than having a glitch/bug make a mission harder. The loot system as it is doesn’t add anything to worthwhile to the game. All it does is take away time you could use to actually shoot ships, do missions, etc and instead have you to struggle to pick up loot, let alone the right one if there are others in the area. It’s an inefficient system and there are other systems that could work better. The only type of risk involved is if the time/frustration of looting the item is worth it.
That is where you are wrong. If you shoot down a Biomorph, but you can’t kill the others, you won’t be able to loot. If Takamina hunts you, you won’t be able to stop and loot. Huge difference. If you want to loot, you expose yourself.
But that could be the case even with a regular loot system where you target. It’s nothing specific to the way it is now. If they let you select(i.e mouse over) the loot you wanted to pick up and kept the timer/range you still wouldn’t be able to loot under those circumstances. The only thing g4borg’s suggestion would really change is the player not having to pick up all the additional fuel cargo that drops just to get the 1 container and possibly easier group play where the squad can decide who gets what. If you’re being attacked you still won’t be able to sit there and loot and if you somehow still can, if anything, not having to target and just having to press “c” made it easier.

You were discussing Jasan’s suggestion, not g4borg’s. We all agree with g4borg’s suggestion.

He never made a suggestion. He just made the distinction that difficulty/challenge aren’t the same thing and that the system as it is now isn’t challenging, but difficult and an irritation. That’s what I was agreeing with. A suggestion would be him saying something to the affect of “the 300m radius should be increased to 1km” or something. Either way, Jasan’s or g4borg’s suggestion, Takamina hunting you would prevent you from looting just like the current system does.

The one thing I really can’t stand is getting trolled with argumentative stupidity. Welcome to my ignore list:
I’d also add a request to up the collection range to 500 - 750 metres.
