I think that means rank also has something to do with it. if you use a higher rank T1 ship, it will throw you in with T2 ships.
If you’re all rank 1 T1 ships it will throw you in with T1 ships.
what i have noticed with the MM is that rank 3/6/9 ships get placed against higher tiers. while rank 2 gets placed with only tier 1(cant say for rank 5/8 as i donthave such ships)
Look, Devs, if you aren’t going to put Tier 1 ships into a tier 1 match, THEY SHOULD NOT BE TIER 1!
This is the big problem with you mixing tiers; you are LYING to your player base. Tier 1 MEANS tier 1, just like tier 2 MEANS tier 2. I am actually apprehensive about buying a rank 6 ship because, whilst it says it is a tier 2 ship, I am convinced your matchmaking will count it as tier 3.

Tiers are shifting away from matchmaking and more into classifications of weapons and modules. Rank is now more important for matchmaking.
You seem to grasp how matchmaking is now treating rank, so you know exactly what to expect from your rank 6 ship.
