It is like comparing a FORK with a Knife  both serve different purposes, and in some cases one or both of them might become useless (eating a soup).

 

He IS right ! 

 

The “Ion emitter” and the “Beam Cannon” have the same “Dammage calculation Mechanics” ! The fake “Range bonus” (Beam Cannon) and the “Graduatly Ignoring Resistance” (Ion Emitter) must be compared !

The Risk taking reward, the positionning ectect can be compared !

 

Stop this Hypocrisy about the Beam Cannon, it’s a weapon, and a weapon is made to kill !

This weapon is not able to kill as other weapons do.

No harass / bust / Alphastrike Ability like other weapons.

 

In T1 : The beam cannon teach nothing about the game Mechanics ! The Assault and the Plasma Gun have the merit to show what are “Weapon Effect”, “Spread” and “Projectile speed”

Imo, there should be a decrease in damage after like3,000 M.  Maybe even a damage boost to targets within 1,000.  This would make it easier to kill interceptors, as everyone knows an inty’s first reaction when hit with ANYTHING is to swirl about like an idiot.  It makes it almost impossible to hit anything with the lasers, as that requires the frig pilot to pretty much anticipate the inty’s every single move.  Weapons like the coil mortar are more forgiving, as they have a chance for area damage, are slow, are slow firing, and give a decent expected hit projector.

 

I think that the lasers should be buffed because it would add some much needed variety to frigate warfare.  Right now, most frig pilots are using the coil mortars or positron.  Some are using heavy blasters, and only a few are using lasers.  Shouldn’t the game focus on balancing weapon choice?  I hate certain things about the coil mortar, but I am forced to use them because they simply are the best weapon to use, imo.  Their dps is significant, and they allow some awesome shots to be made when moving from cover to cover.  The problem with the lasers is that they force the pilot to put themselves in direct line of sight, exposing them pretty much 100% in order to deal damage.  For frigates, this makes them very vulnerable, as they rely on cover since they are so slow.

 

Sure, there may have been an update that nerfed them, but perhaps the mechanics need to be completely redone.  Like I said, I’m tired of Coil Mortars, but I would be interested to see some other weapons/changes to existing ones in a positive direction.

Edit:  Tried the new patch.  Still think the same thing.  They are a little more effective, but most people have tons of thermal resist due to LRFs.
