The game isn’t advertising at all. It is unfinished. Totalbiscuit did some work, and we got a large peak at once. The game still isn’t ready for massive users for now. It is updating, polishing, and will shine in future. With our help. I’m sure.
There is quite a bit of denial in this thread. However, I think it is pretty obvious that the playercount has decreased significantly after the expiration of the complimentary license. Who knows if it is really because of the license ending, or many players just happened to get bored over that amount of time. A few days ago, at this hour (off-peak), there would be around 2k people online. Now it is 500. Anyway, Gaijin has access to the player login data and its up to them to decide if license is really the issue or not.
Personally, I am not really sure if it is license, I think people might just be realizing how much grind is required for T3/T4, and this likely turns off the average player. Of course hardcore players who accept high grind are okay with this (every game has hardcores that will accept any amount of grind). The license thing only stands out due to this underlying issue of high T3/T4 grind.
I agree. The license grants a bit too much boost in progression that when the free period expires and people get a taste of what is it like without using the license, chances are they pay up or leave. I will be paying for license personally, but I don’t think this is a good way to retain F2P playerbase. Squad size anyone?
No licence here. Still grinding. Level 12 Federation, 6 Empire. You want it, you work for it, licence or no licence. Personally, it’s more of a drag thing if you played for too long, so I usually have one or 2 matches, go do something else, then come back.
I am realizing that if you want many of the top tier options you will have to pay or get incredibly lucky or spend a LONG time earning them. Once the license runs out we will be making about what, half reputation? So 700 for a loss, 1400 for a win? It’s 100k reputation to get to Rank 8.
So that is 71 wins if you win every one of those games. That is 11 hours with a 10minute game average.
That’s not so bad, but what about rank 12? How much is that one going to take? The actual ranks for factions isn’t even the worst part. If you’re Empire and you max your rank then boom, you get access to every ship of the Empire. The problem is with the other factions… the sub-factions. You can’t really tell what you’ll need later on to get for instance: Rapid-Fire Plasma. I am now entering T3 for the second time in a different faction and I am stuck without the blue Rapid-Fire Plasma because it requires something like rank 8 in Tech faction which I am only rank 1.
This is where the cost of premium tiered items comes into play. I wouldn’t mind supporting this game and buying some items but when they are about 3 dollars+ a module I am starting to get reluctant. A good T3 ship is going to run you like 15 dollars + 3-4 a module which means you’re basically paying like 30 dollars for ONE ship in TIER 3!
I think the business model here is too expensive. I would certainly drop $100+ over the life of this game, easily, if I felt like I was getting more for my money. I wouldn’t mind paying 59.99$ for a lifetime pilot license(the cost of your average computer game) but I don’t want to pay 50 dollars every 6 months. I wouldn’t mind paying 15 dollars for a ship if it came with a selection of a few premium modules at the same time. I wouldn’t mind buying a module here and there if they were $1 a piece.
Let me buy a lifetime license for what a computer game costs nowadays and then let me buy an entire Tier 3/4/5 ship for 8-10/10-12/12-14 dollars with full modules.
This game isn’t pay to win or pay to play, but if you’re hardcore and loving it like I am it certainly looks dismal for being able to have the high-end stuff without paying extreme amounts of money. I think the Company as a whole and the game will do better if they lower prices across the board and get more players paying then a few paying high prices.
I’m playing since August 12. Today is March 13. For 7 months I have 2 of 15 ranks, 2 of 14 ranks and 2 of 13 ranks. About 20 hours per week. 1-2 first months I played without a license. Not bought any premium modules. Bought 2 t4 premium ships when repair costs were crazy high and income was crazy low, but I don’t using premium ships anymore because they fixed economic issues at t4 about few months ago. But, I’m usually winning… It may be harder for a not skilled player.
Also you can farm PvE. It is completely safe - you won’t lose any ships in pve if you knows what to do. You won’t need to repair, you’ll get your reward. Profit!
If you wishes to play and get fun, you don’t need any gold stuff for t2-t3 gameplay.
Holy shid, people are done complaining about snipers, and it seems that the ‘OMG ITS TURNING INTO PAY2PLAY’ is next.
I’ll grab some popcorn.
i want to confess when i see gold ships i tell myself they are pros lol
i think there just needs to be a look at how the license works. i dont care about grinding i dont care about grinding. i dont want the full content of this game after 3 weeks of playing. i also dont want to feel like there is a mountain to climb to get a new ship.
my only issue is with the license affecting squads. the grind (however big when yours runs out) is doable. not good model wise but decent.
the issue needs to at least be discussed. and you can’t log in 5 days to get 1 day license. it would take you 15 days consecutive to get 1 day worth of license.

huh?
He means the 5-day reward of 100 gold if you log in everyday for 5 days. I got mine yesterday.
The License thing is a big deal for me as well. I don’t think paying 2x the cost of a regular Computer Game 100$ for a year is something I want to do :/ I would easily pay 50$ once for a lifetime License though and grind out the ships/modules.

In-game the license does not say anything about squads. Only about money, experience and reputation gains. So either you’re misinformed, or the description is incorrect.
9 hours a day???
9 hours a day???
i dont sleep XD usually im on from 7 - at least 4am and thats if i start late. then i wake up early and play another 3-4 in the morning
Your biggest money maker should always be cosmetic. Once they start selling paint jobs for all the ships they’ll be making soooo much bank off that.

That is generally the best way.
For those who said a lifetime membership for $50, do most lifetime memberships not cost like $200+?
The only change I would like to see is the squad size limitation. For online games, I consider social features a necessity, and anything that inhibits that is bad. Even if only one person needs the license, it’s still annoying that free players won’t be able to play with more than another person. Asides from that though, I think the license system is good.

Damn. No school or job? Don’t forget to take breaks every 30 minutes.

And I sorta miss the days where you purchase a game once, $20-50 and you get everything. No lame DLCs or microtransactions. F2P is nice, though.
You gotta be hardcore to grind this stuff with out a license. Mine ran out this morning and just got on to do a few matches… Holy crap… you end up with a bad team, or you mess up in a match, it barely pays the repair bill, let alone looking ahead to buy a new ship or shiny mod for it.
License was a nice taste, but man dear alive, I can’t imagine ever paying some, what I feel, hefty prices for bonuses in beta(cannot hide behind that for ever!) Really disheartening not being able to feel your progression, after you felt it a bit.
That is generally the best way.

dunno but GW2 cost only 60$ and it’s only one time pay, i never seen life time memberships game before.

Champions Online and Star Trek Online both had lifetime subscriptions Before they went F2P they allowed some folks to buy a 200 lifetime sub that came with a bunch of in game benefits.
