is SC dead?

I started playing back when the beta had its final hardwipe. Back then you could get full games in less than a minute for pvp and pve but now it takes six minutes for a partial team. Also they used to have a player counter on the bottom right by the SC-1337 but that has been taken away. Chat used to be full of life but now only a few people talk.

They made the matchmaker more complex so it takes longer to find a match, especially if you have ships from different Tiers in your lineup.

And don’t try queuing in a squad. That almost never works.

They also removed any indication of player count, for no apparent reason.

i think they removed it because people were leaving and the ones who remained were less than 1k

No. It is not dead. Mm just sucks.

During peak times there are far more players online than 1k.

I agree. But we in the US need advertising. After EU peak ends (which ends at 4 pm or so) we US players barely get matches. Can you beg the devs (or rather Stargem and Gaijin) to promote this game more? Really, we simply want proof that they are trying. Just forward this thread and I will be happy

Certain things are already in work.

They said they removed the player count because it took too much resources, but from a programmers prospective, I can disagree with that.

About 1k is just the number of concurrent Steam players. Many players here don’t use Steam, but Gaijin and now ARC

If you check weekly leaderboards, it shows about 7k active players in T4 and T5.

T2/T3 are usually more populated than T4/5… so a guesstimate would be between 10k and 15k active players, maybe slightly more.

Perhaps a more useful estimate would be about 5k online at peak population (mid afternoon for US players) and much, much less at low population (US prime time).

No, it is not dead. The problem is that if you are in a squad, the MM will wait for another squad to face you. If it happens that nobody is playing in squads of the same size than you, you will never get a game.

If you play solo or in a squad of 2, it is really easy to get games in less than 1 min in european peak time.

Unfortunately for American players, the player base at the other side of the Atlantic is much lower, so in US peak time, the chances of getting a game fast are lower.

But it is true that there have been an influx of new american players since the game is supported by ARC. ARC is not very popular in russia or europe, but it seems to be quite popular in the US.

Nonetheless, player numbers are increasing steadily since the official release in September 2014.

We do work on advertising. It takes time, however and we know such issue exsists

Mm has changed a bit. Squads of 2 might face a squad of 3 now, and the bigger squad usually gets more unexperienced players as randoms

It is important that everyone in a squad has the same tier, and for older players, you should not equip final-rank-in-tier ships which are not premium to get better results. This is just our subjective experience until now squadding in the corp.

In any case queueing for pvp, as noted, should always be done with same-tier ships.

Also, T5 is more active nowadays. T3 is active as ever. US timezones of course still have more activity in t2.

I would say it’s far from being dead, actually, games tend to be bigger nowadays, especially on weekends.

Yes, one can easily run into a 7v7 or 8v8 T5 pvp battle nowadays, which always ends up in an epic awesomeness.

Many of the games that get noticed the most are the ones Steam features. I am sure its an extra cost, and not part of your steamworks subscription. Maybe try paying for that several weekends a month could help get more USA sales. Offering DLC sales will also get spammed to all us steam users. 10% is kinda a slap in the face, but i think its a loophole around the featured thing. So there is at least 2 ways in steam alone.

Doing an article with GameSpot is another popular channel to discover games here in the usa. Ars Technica and extreme tech is always doing pieces on games. Raptor a game client is also another place to consider.

You can even get your link posted on these forumns without steam involved. Using tags like "citizen dangerous elite trek space galaxy guardians, as well as many of the ship names since they are in eve. This will ride off the advertising already in place with other games, so when they read it you game will show up in the related. The most important part of your advertising is Key words. The more key words the more related you are to other things.

Paying for ad space on fox.com or spike tv or even the scifi channel is another angle to consider.

If there are a lot more players than before, why was the player counter hidden?(Now only Devs,GM’s.tanslaters can see player count)witch means it’s not removed and it doesn’t “use too much resources”.

That is wrong. They also cannot see it in game.

Translators doesn’t have any different powers than any other normal player. We don’t have access to press account or server side parameters.

In fact, you can see all my videos, and the UI and client is the same. I don’t even have access to the Obs system some contributors and tournament people have.

I’m pretty sure we all understand it takes time, but in the 3 years this game has been out, I have only ever seen one advertisement for it.

That was when it was featured on Steam on the day of the Steam-release (which is why I started playing it).

Sure, there are the video ads on YouTube, but no one is going to find those unless they search for “Star Conflict”
