I am going to agree this game is dead- or in its dying throws.
I started playing a few weeks ago as I picked up a DK2 for a good deal. The game is fantastic- but I find I spend more time staring at a count-up timer (that very often goes well over 4:00m) than I do playing. It was a little better last week, but I think the latest ‘patch’ has ‘fixed’ the match even worse.
I was considering buying a license to speed my credit growth, but waiting 2-6 minutes (I cancel when it goes > 4m) to play a ‘quick’ round makes the game not enjoyable. :(
You can also try setting server region to “Any” if you haven’t already. Options - Game - Scroll down.
I left because I had a lot of work around school and competitions (and to be honest, game got a little boring)
Sorry for being ignorant but can you describe dreadnought battles? I know only what I’ve seen from videos.
You need form a wing of 4-8 players - single corp members only for attacking, or mixed corps for defending a sector.
You have 2 dreadnoughts spaced about 12km apart. You launch from the dreadnought hangar and fight. 10s respawns. Your dreadnought/team starts with “Fleet Strength” points depending on equipment on dreadnought, let’s just call them “points”.
There are 3 main structures on the dreadnoughts which act like beacons in “capture the beacons” mode. You can capture them using your ships, or taking a bomb. If you disable any of these structures, points are deducted from the enemy team. They will also lose a critical operation of their dreadnought.
-
Command Tower controls launching of AI Drones.
-
Weapons Cooler controls a weapons bonus.
-
Shield Emitter controls a shield bonus.
Your dreadnoughts can also be equipped with torpedo launchers - 2 torps are launched every so often. If they hit, they deal damage to the dreadnought and to surrounding ships. You can shoot down torpedoes (disintegrators are one shot kill).
You can also deduct points from the enemy by killing drones (1 point), enemy ships (15 points), or various mini structures like turrets and generators on the dreadnought (15-60 points).
The dreadnoughts also have weapons - main guns and torpedoes. Main guns power up, then shoot. Deals damage to enemy dreadnought and vapourises any ships/asteroids in the way. Shields recharge, but once the weapons get to the hull, points are deducted.
The asteroids in between the dreadnoughts can be annoying as they deal collision damage if you crash into them. You also constantly drift towards the rear of the dreadnoughts as they are “moving”. Sniping module makes you drift with the dreadnoughts.
Only dreadnought weapons can affect the dreadnought’s shields and main hull. You can fly through the shield however. You cannot blaze away at a random part of the hull to deal damage - you can only destroy certain structures or capturing the 3 objects or enemy players.
Ways you can die: Enemy players. Drones (bot frigates). Getting hit by torpedo - deals some damage. Taking too much fire from defence turrets. Getting hit by asteroids too many times. Getting in the way of dreadnought weapon as it fires - instant boom, no barriers can save you.
Oh and you can also die if you try to hide in the engine trails of the dreadnoughts… ;p
