Is it worth taking all the time to get parts for a destroyer?

For the past week I’ve been getting parts for a destroyer, and I’m nowhere close to even being done.  (rank 8 destroyer BTW)

Is it really worth it taking all the time to build just one ship when I could have a number of smaller ships by then?

If it is worth it, where in open space is the best place to look for the parts you need?

If by worth you mean “Powerful”, then yes.

But if you mean “Fun”, then no.

I don’t think farming for 3 months to get all the neodium/beryllium/[r14 mineral name] is worth a few hours of fun.

Really? Three months? I can see that for a rank 11 destroyer no problem, but for rank 8, that’s a bit much.

Drop for neodium has been severely diminished, but with hard work you can still make one in a few months. Best way is looking for mysterious containers (they can only be found with the use of spatial scanner, a GS CPU module). Getting neodium from PVP/PVE/coop battles is really slow even with 4 fully maxed synergy ships R8 in the hangar slots, because the chances are splitted among all the other ship parts (that makes getting berillyum from the same way faster). Most players will tell you that flying destroyers is boring as xxxx (probably because they are used to fly interceptors and other fast ships), but it actually depends on what you enjoy flying. I personally love them, they are one of my favorite ships (i like frigates so…they are similar in many aspects). You may also hear that flying destroyers is the easiest thing in the world and that theres no skill in flying them: thats completely false, although, a complete noo.b is able to do very well compared when using other ships…but one thing is clear: a good destroyer pilot will RAPE a bad one flying another destroyer. You may get great results from playing bad, but trust me, it makes a big difference how you fly your destroyer; piloting one comes hard at first because controls are quite different from flying the other ships, as well for managing to do a good broadside (one where you actually fire with 8 turrets, which aint a big angle at all), knowing how to save energy for using the proper modules at the right time, positioning, etc. Destroyers are very slow in many ways, but that doesnt mean you wont be bussy pressing your keyboard and mouse (i actually would like having an extra finger sometimes xD…or a keyboard that doesnt jams); if you like slow, tanky, with heavy power guns ships, then the destroyer should be a ship you will certainly enjoy. If you like going fast, dodging, turning a lot, sneaking around, feeling the rush of fast paced ships, then flying a destroyer will be the most boring thing you can think of.

You can make Fed destroyers a cruise gunboat that can go as fast as a fed engi or faster and turn well enough to get in and out of places in time. That is far from sitting around, though it might not work so well if you try to cruise into the enemy team - especially if there is an ECM, otherwise you can kill something before you die ;p

Ok thanks guys.  I defiantly would love destroyer gameplay, I used to play a lot of World of Warships and played battleships in there.  So I think destroyers will suit me well.

2 months, bummer.  Oh well, I’ll just keep saving up. ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)

Neoidium can be “easily” farmed in Open space. Mysterious containers drops panels relatively at high rate. Valuable minerals, mineral deposit, crystal nodes etc instead have a “decent” drop rate for impure neoidium.

There are sectors on the map that are easier to spoil for that since there are a lot of minerals to check and a drone to fast send resources back home.

You still need 16plates for a r8 destroyer part, and need 2 parts. Which represent 320 neodium.

While you can have a neo each 15 minutes, it still represent 80 hours of constant farming.

If you play 2 hours a day, you’ll have to do this every day for 40 days.

I don’t see how it is easy.

Easier than trying to farm that only from pvp loot.

Btw where did you took that average 15 min drop chance thing?

On the forum. I saw many times a 1-2 neo/bely a hour. And I have *2  that value (just in case).

So for farming, which sectors yield the most amount of neodium.  Specifically the Red and light blue kind which I need desperately.

I’m going to get my rank 10 gunship fighter in the next few days, so please also suggest rank 10+ sectors not just the local sectors.

Not anymore sponge. I got more than 100 neodium plates from mysterious containers gathering berillyum for T4 destroyers (2 weeks). Ive only obtained 23 plates since the “get 50 impure neodium from PVP/PVE/coop/spec ops mission” and ive spend A LOT MORE time searching for them in mysterious containers and valuable/large minerals. Average time to get 1 neodium plate in the frontier from mysterious containers is about an hour, finding like 4 containers each 5 minutes.

for neodium: frontier sectors searching for mysterious containers. For graphite plate and osmium, look in R7 sectors that contain valuable or large minerals. Abandoned station (fed) gives lots of crystal shards and impure osmium, scrapyard gives a lot of garphite playe and a mix of other stuff.

Thanks.  I’ve been traveling from the empire to the federation and then back to the empire again at least a few times per week (I could just spend the credits, but I can farm crystals by doing it the other way).  I’ll try and see what the abandoned station has when I go back to the federation soon.

for graphit and neo think about going to terramorphing station best place for those 2 ressources ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)

I did it yesterday. Found 5 plates and many neodium berries in 2 hours.

Two hours dedicated entirely to finding stuff in open space? I doubt that many people put that much time into open space, I personally still do a lot of co op and PvE (so I can upgrade my current ships).

when you are specifically looking for something, you will go out to OS if its necessary…like saving months of farming doing so.

Exactly. I was helping one of my friend to get some neoidium. Then I have persisted for a little more after we found what he need, to see if I was able to find also berillium since I’ve looted very few of it out of open space.
If 2 hours of farming can help you save tons of hours looting elsewhere: why not?
I’m not defending the amount of resources needed to craft a single ship btw

Actually I’m changing my mind on what I said above.  Today on my routine 30 minutes of open space time, I went to the scrapyard and found quite a bit of neoidium.  I even found a very rare piece of metal for destroyer building which was nice to see.

you mean neodium plate or enriched berillyum?
