Which one is good for what (dogfighting, killing bigger stuff), few pros and cons (high spread, low range,…), and your personal preference?

Depends on the ship, but atm without further info i can only tell to stay away from pulse laser. They nerfed it at the point it’s useless.
Plasma gun is the versatile one. Long range (for an inty) / high accuracy. It suits well recon that goes for beacon or defensive empire ECM. Its very low spread make it usefull in every situation.
Shrapnel has high spread and need the purple ammunitions to be really good. Great on cov ops or ecm.
Rapidfire blaster is somewhat the EM version of the shrapnel, but you can shoot small burst to increase accuracy.
The high spread of this 2 weapons make them harder to use on dogfight, but they are powerfull enough to not be useless against other inties.
Pulse laser is less interesting due to low dps, low range, and low firing time. I only find it good on recon, coz it’s the only way to give them an easy high dps / high accuracy weapon. But the 900m range can be hard to handle

No, they nerfed it to the point now it is balanced.
As a standard, here you have the interceptor gun reviews. Bonused ships, and builds can change some of the characteristics

Laser like accuracy (obvious) very powerful vs other interceptors in dogfights
Bad at long range, overheating cycle forces you to have a good fire discipline.
Thermal damage is usually the most tanked of all damages, since it is the most common
Recommended ammo: High oscillation ammo, for better overheating time. Curved ammo is useless. Range ammo is not worth.
Plasma gun:
Good RoF
Perfect accuracy after the heating cicle is complete (about 1 sec firing)
High projectile speed, more so with ammo. Enough to use supernova even in non bonused ships.
Good range
Good at dogfights
Low damage, EM, bad vs hull
Recommended ammo: Supernova or high speed ammo. In bonused ships always supernova.
RF Blaster:
Insane RoF
Insane burst damage
Very good critical damage
High overheating time
Really high spread when the heating cycle is over (opposite to plasma gun, this weapon spread more, the more you fire)
Close range, bad at dogfights vs fast and nimble interceptors
EM damage, bad vs hull, epic good vs the casual guard player.
Projectile speed is very similar to rocket speed, so you can use the lead marker to fire rockets.
Recommended ammo: Supernova. Always. Also, one or two electronic guidances are great in this weapon. With a bonused ship and two purple EG, your fully open spread is 1.6 and the initial spread is 0,3. Really good for burst attacks.
Sharpnel cannon:
Very high spread
Very good alpha damage
Kinetic damage, very good vs hull.
Short range
Not that good vs dogfigthers
Losses a lot of DPS if you are not firing forwards. Strafe builds recommended.
Hard to aim
Recommended ammo: Iridium slugs. Always. The spread of this gun otherwise is unplayable.
Then you have the specific weapons, but first try to get the ropes with the standard weapons.

Kinetic supercharger is just a mini coil mortar whose spread increases a bit like RF blaster. It is very nice with electronic guidance and iridium heatsinks, coupled with a shared cooler.
Otherwise Eviscerador has hit the nail on the head for all the other weapons. I have nothing to add.
Edit: actually I do. I find RF blaster easier to dogfight with than plasma gun, but maybe that’s just because I’m a bad dogfighter and rely on the spread of the RF blaster to actually have a chance of hitting my target.

For you it is. That doesn’t mean it is useless. In fact I’m doing fine with it in all my cov ops and recons.

i use it on my recons still, its awesome you become a very annoying person in a dogfight with another inty / fighter. sucks vs frigates but u can’t have everything

they ruined my T5 covert ops with those nerfs of termal weps & curved…

Curved ammo is the best ammunition for this weapon, you take one shared cooler and you don’t have to worry, but i’d take it one a ship which has increased weapon heating time anyway like Storm Viking or Wakizashi AE, because you go into dogfight anway i’d always go for that ammunition, that’s what most experienced pilots do with that weapon. Otherwise the damage is just too low.

The damage is fine. The main problem you will have is that most people tank more thermal than any other thing.
Maybe most of the experienced pilots should review their performance with that gun. I find that many people complain about the short range of the pulse laser (when it is the second best of the standard weapons in range for interceptors after the plasma gun) and it is because people only uses the curved reflector. Well, maybe you should try it without the curved reflector!

With rk2 range implant, it’s more around 920 m… Optimal range around 690m. Wich is good on recon as you can tank pulsar / minefield with parasitic modulator. That’s what is really great with this game, you can develop different playstyles

@OP : we can give you some input and archetypal builds, but it’s really by testing that you will find what suits you. Or just go for Eviscerador’s tips, they are great
I don’t like the supercharger. I find the plasma gun do a better job at long range inty weapon. And its damage is really low.

atm i’m loving the vanilla plasma gun, but RF blaster has some potential, if i manage to reduce the spread
i’m also a rather bad dogfighter, and rely on the spread to land any hits

I use the curved ammo on my berserker with 3300 dps, 30% crit chance, 98%+ (it’s green) bonus, and 1100 range.
Pulse lasers are all i really use on inties. they’re wonderful.

i used vanilla plasma gun on a CovOps and it was truly awesome, but on ECM it feels like a pea shooter.
If i had 2 cpu slots on mah Nodachi, i’d take a RF blaster.
sadly, it seems that i vastly prefer CovOps to ECM
because that wasn’t op at all
