As people may have noticed, I’m mostly playing with Jericho frigates, so should be no surprise that I take my shield tanking seriously.
I think there is a mistake regarding a few passive modules…
Rank 13 Auxiliary Projector gives 29% shield volume.
Rank 15 Auxiliary Projector gives 33% shield volume.
That is an increase of 4 percentage points, or approximately 13.8%.
Rank 13 Shield Splitter gives 37.5% shield volume.
Rank 15 Shield Splitter gives 38.5% shield volume.
That is only an increase of 1 percentage point, or approximately 2.7%
In other words, at rank 13 Shield Splitter gives 8.5 percentage points, or approximately 29.3%, more shield volume than Auxiliary Projector.
While at rank 15 Shield Splitter gives only 5.5 percentage points, or approximately 16.7%, more shield volume than Auxiliary Projector. Hardly worth the acceleration malus.
Clearly something is amiss here. The obvious fix would be increasing rank 15 Shield Splitter bonus to something like 42.5%.
Any of the devs paying attention to this? There’s stuff to fix here!
Looking at the lower rank variants too, Auxiliary Shield Projector always improves by 4 points, while Shield Splitter goes up only a single point. Perhaps these were meant to go the other way around, and someone just messed up when inputting new stats while moving from tier system to rank system?
As it stands, Shield Splitter just gets worse and worse compared to Auxiliary Shield Projector when going up in ranks.
Auxiliary shield got buffed cause it was too bad…and if you are in a frig you will want the max shield volume, not that you really care for that acceleration decrease in such slow frigs. The buff shouldve made aux shield a bit more of an option compared to shield splitter.

All of the volume modifiers are bad compared to the resistance ones, why is the Auxiliary Shield Projector a special case?
Anyway, that is beyond the point. Why are the values so illogical? Shouldn’t they merely have buffed the base value of Auxiliary Shield Projector and keep the improvements to it when advancing in ranks lesser than those of the Shield Splitter? Because mobility gets more important at higher ranks, so the mod that comes with an acceleration malus should obviously improve more.

Not anymore with the destroyers and their Gravity Lens being in game; that 4% more of relative total shield volume at rank 15 turns out to be a really bad deal when dragged out of position and damaged through the shield. Would have been questionable even without destroyers; so small benefit doesn’t really balance out reduced ability to dodge Disintegrator and Coil Mortar fire.
You’ll just have to use the Aux shield instead of splitter, make it easier to blow up the Inquisitor AE

It was wayy bad, and got upgraded in the same way as reinforced beam did. If you notice, beams and aux are almost the same, as well armor plated with splitter, and therefore the relation between reinforced and armor plated is like aux with splitter. Now if you want a real answer about why reinforced and aux have a smaller gap with the other mod than before, you can ask devs ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)
Believe it or not, acceleration has nothing to do with black hole drag. You get out of it with speed, not acceleration (i tried it). I think you should look into it as a module vs module instead of 2 ranks of a same module: splitter gives 5,5% more volume than auxiliary. Also, dont confuse acceleration (frontal) with strafe acceleration (strafe). Using a shield splitter or 2 or 3 will make your strafe accelerate the same way as if you wear none…if you want to dodge those weapons by pitching, then max speed and turn rate will matter instead.

Have been using it on Inquisitor AE for a few months now.

Yeah, I know that Gravi Lens causes no acceleration, it just adjusts locations of ships at a steady pace. One can just passively glide out of it with speed above 200.
My point regarding it was that the difference in acceleration usually makes the difference between being dragged out of cover and barely staying in cover. Or in other words, death by focus fire or not.
