I just reached T4, and whoopdede, on the very day my licence expires.
However, after playing a couple matches I noticed that my fighter maintenance is now… quite expensive…
In one rather unfortunate match in which my team succeeded but I ended up dying quite often pushing the objective, my maintenance costs actually outweighed the reward for the match.
This got me thinking: Given that maintenance is so high at this level and the fact that I’m rewarded rather substantially regardless of whether the team wins or looses, what exactly is my incentive to engage the enemy team? If I’m not up to par with my opponents then I risk loosing more and more with each death, even if I was doing my best to aid the team. Even if I keep my deaths low and play very conservatively I now realize that I have an incentive not to play, not to engage the enemy players, and not to die than I do to try and win.
Even more startling is that from now on I’ll be in even greater danger of going into the red due to the 50% decrease in income, so what gives, what am I missing?
The title of this thread accurately describe the current situation with T3 matches as well. Getting killed in a match should have the penalty within the match, rather than outside of the match, impeding player progression.

I would gladly pay to fix this particular issue but at the moment the only permanent plan that would allow this is a $75 payment. Again now, I really like the game but that’s way way outside of what I think its worth. Now its true there are cheaper payment methods but the highest I’d be willing to pay only amounts to three weeks. If I go with that method twice then I’d be close to the $75 buy in, but thats not the worst part of this route.
The worst part about renewing my licence every time it expires is that this would be dangerously close to being a subscription and that the alternative (being a free to play player) means total stagnation and barely earning enough to keep flying in these higher tiers.
I was genuinely surprised and quite a bit disheartened not to find anyone replying with faults in my reckoning.
Even more saddening, however is that this isn’t more of an issue, that the community seems content to argue back and forth about ‘OP SNIPERS’ or what have you. I mean this seems like a very serious issue, there’s genuine, powerful incentive not to participate in the team aspect of a team based game! If this isn’t fixed then the game’s core purpose would effectively be broken.

if a team works together properly amount of deaths go down too.
If you need money take 2 fully equipped Tier 3 ships with you and use those. The difference isn’t that big.
You are not forced to play t4. You may return to t2-t3. T4 is engame content right now and it has some endgame restrictions. Btw we just got in corp one t4 player who plays only for a 1.5 weeks, but has a great skill. Despite of ESB is mostly russian speaking corporation he is an english player. His name is Nazool - he is great at piloting and team cooperation skill.

yeah well if someone manages to get into ESB they don’t really have anything to worry about xD
I reached T3 shortly and my license ran out shortly after that. i still make money on T3, not much but enough to buy the shieldbooster (20k credits for 3 matches) and still make some plus. (max ~40k repair-cost, ~50-60k income + loot if the team wins (and they mostly don’t, the t3-players i get mostly seem to be less intelligent than t2 i think (ignoring hostile bomb-carriers, captain tries to kill the other captain and dies etc)))

it’s called gradual dumbification (a.k.a most people with a brain in T3 are in a corp and fly with squads. The rest is what is commonly known as pugs.)
at least they’re not all like this got a great team yesterday, communicative, good pilots, the captain was in cover, it was just awesome
Captain is a valuable combat unit on battlefield. +50% dps is awesome bonus. But captain needs to be careful ofcourse. Only the newbie captains stays in cover and they are dying very quickly.

How come then that the good captains i never see die are lurking in cover with command role fighter?
Btw i agree that a won game should always give more moneys, also that assists and teamwork is reflected in it, and it should be more clear how the reward comes to it, that way teamwork is encouraged in even the most thickheaded lonewolf (me;))
