Okay, lets go over a little bit about this game. Why I like it. Things I think need to be fixed, etc.
Well first-off. I just recently picked the game up. In terms of gameplay and the ships, I like it. I’m a federation character, and the ship designs are really something enjoyable to me, as I have always liked Jets and the like, and seeing that implimented into a space game is very interesting. Some designs are a little over the top. Some are bulky and ugly. But in the end, overall, the ships are nice.
In terms of the gameplay, it is very enjoyable as well, if not without a few bugs here and there, or with a few overpowered ships in some cases.
Now lets discuss what this game is, or what it is labelled as. A Space Combat Flight Simulator. What exactly does this mean? Well, the tag ‘Flight Sim’ is collectively one thing - A basis of control in something as close to realistic as possible within a gamespace.
Of course, if we are going the combat flight sim route, a cockpit view HUD or UI would of course be a logical implimentation.
I understand full well this game is in beta, and there’s a lot more coming to it. However a Cockpit view feature is something that makes these kinds of games even more popular. And not having it? Well, lets just say there’s a reason I couldn’t get into X3: Reunion or Galaxy on Fire 2.
Some of my favorite games I’ve played have been flight sims. Back from when I played my first one on my Sony Playstation when I was about 10 years old, to these days, with HAWX and Ace Combat. One of my favorite games from this genre is also Evochron Mercenary. These games have always had one thing in common: Some form of First-Person view or Cockpit view within the game. For me, that is a key immersion factor that makes or breaks a great sim game.
I love the gameplay in Star Conflict, but to be quite frank, not having that first person view, for my gameplay style, is a huge hinderence for me. I can’t speak for others when I say this, but I truly believe something like this needs to be implimented in the game. It’s always an enjoyable feature. It adds immersion, putting you in the driver’s seat, so to speak, making the game feel a little less arcade and a lot more hardcore.
Just for consideration.
