This has been bugging me for a while, so I figured today I would post this…
From what I can tell from playing this game on high-ping servers, my ship appears to wobble and move all over the place. But it seems that in reality, my ship is flying in a very basic path. This is a huge problem, because the high-ping players now have an even more significant disadvantage. On top of their modules not responding in a timely manner and their ship not going where they want, it is also extremely easy for the pilots with good ping to hit them.
For instance, a player with ping making their ship uncontrollable could be trying to maneuver around and dodge, but due to the ping, their ship doesn’t actually do those maneuvers, and appears to fly in a somewhat straight, predictable path.
What this tells me that one thing needs to happen: Server quality needs to be improved, so pilots of all regions can get ping where their ship is controllable and does what they tell it to.
This isn’t a one-way street, not just US pilots playing on RU servers complain about this. I’ve talked to RU pilots who say the same thing when they are put on US servers.
This is also not my ISP. I play between 2 different locations, one of which is my shi**y dorm internet, one is my top-of-the-line ISP at my actual house, and it happens on both. This is a server issue of which there is no excuse. Servers exist where players of a game can get playable ping on server regions that aren’t local. If these servers aren’t affordable, I understand, this game doesn’t make much money due to the low player base (hinthint), but the devs could put more money into this, instead of putting money into useless updates that provide no actual benefit/changes to the game (coughcough April Fool’s update coughcough).
Anyways, I’m done with my rant. This needed to be said.
Gat damn dude. We need this forwarded to the devs asap. Everyone has this problem on high ping servers, and sometimes, even if the ship is COMPLETELY stopped, it still flips around like it is receiving controller input.
This needs to be fixed, as I’m sure it causes a lot of players to leave quite frustrated. This is a free game, but you have many people who pay because we believe it is a good thing. Now do us this favor and make us want to play regardless of ping.
The servers are constantly being monitored and adjusted. Still it is very difficult to establish a good connection for everyone.
That’s not the issue. When players get high ping, their ships become completely uncontrollable. What we are asking is for devs to take a look into this and see if they can fix it. I watch my ship when it flies itself, and I can actually see the rotation thrusters firing which means the ship thinks it is getting input when it is not.
The ping or loss may be due to a bottleneck of traffic in a server somewhere, i don’t know much of where SC’s data is routed but it seems logical that for an EU server to be giving 100 ping or something there must be a huge pile-up of data
Generally i get EU servers at 20 ping and USA & RU are about 75 ping which is playable in all but inties, S.Asia is totally unplayable because at 400 ping all i can use is a frigate, and even that wobbles a bit
Good afternoon! We all do know that servers need some adjustments, please, dont think that we do not care, we do! We are hosting with a third party for Europe players, therefore it is not really our fault that servers are down. However we do everything what is possible to prevent such situations to happen. We hope for your understanding.

It would be your fault for choosing to use a hosting service that would have issues.
Again, though many of the issues are route related. I don’t mind the 100-150 ping I get from a taxed server. I mind the 200+ from a bad route.
I have always had issues with Russian servers and sometimes EU (US player here). If I am in a ship with any kind of agility, it will make moves I don’t tell it to make. I try to sit still and it still likes to squirm like an earthworm. I will say, however, that the ping fluctuations have improved, so I can at least try adapt to the delay and some of the movement craziness, but against skilled opponents who have good ping and complete control, you can’t adapt.
And I’m not talking about just US players having troubles on Russian and sometimes EU servers, EU players (and Russian too, I’m assuming but don’t know b/c I don’t speak Russian) have the same issues on US servers. It would just be nice to have equal opportunity you know?
Also, I shouldn’t be forced to have crazy internet speed to play a f2p game properly you know? My internet speed is the highest available for where I am currently located (12mb/s). My ping used to be very low all the time back when the game was still fairly new and still had a large player base… idk what happened.

This.
I’m perfectly fine with the good EU and the occasional good RU servers. There are 1 or 2 EU servers that give me problems, but only 1 or 2 RU servers that don’t.
I get about 60 ping on US servers (due to my proximity to their location), and about 160 on the good EU servers. On the bad EU servers I get 180-200 ping. On good RU servers I get 180 ping, which is still kind of playable on ceptors. But like I said, that only happens on 1 or 2 RU servers. On the rest, I get 220+, most commonly above 250 ping, as well as 2-5% packet loss. In most cases, I prefer flying on SA servers than on RU servers, I get a max of about 250 ping on SA servers, which half of the time is less than my ping on RU servers. I also don’t ever get packet loss on SA servers.
Like I said in the original post, this isn’t my ISP, because it happens in two places, one has kinda sketchy internet, the other has high-quality internet.
Everyone has missed the point, he asks why the pilot’s ship moves weirdly as if it is receiving direction / rotation data that is not being sent by the pilot whilst the pilot has high ping. He is not asking what causes lag or what causes packet loss
(i personally don’t know the answer, I would assume if someone has a lot of lag the ship would just continue to fly in that trajectory until the next piece of data for movement was received by the client but instead the ship spins round like crazy even if your speed is 0 and you are not moving the mouse to look around)
in my experience lag happens when your internet is either just too slow or is very sporadic jumping from weak to strong signal there is a difference when your network is just crap overall that’s when your ship will start rotating randomly since it’s on a time delay at some points your ship can go completely out of control if your network is bad enough but then the game will just disconnect you. When your signal is sporadic that causes objects to pause and then speed up until they catch up into real time. If the objects freeze for too long you are disconnected. Again this is just from my observation is that all of the lag is local but the wait times is a server issue. I think there is a bottleneck in the servers because I’ve seen other games have an average wait time of 2 secants then the map loads the timer starts and it’s all fine and dandy. Robocraft is an example but it’s servers(which are yahoo servers by the way) are reputable for crashing from secants to hours at a time, but they do dynamically add and take away servers to cope with player traffic down to the tier but in star conflicts it would be down to the rank. The point here is that I think that the devs should research other games their servers and then apply the knowledge as well trying out new things, but there probably doing that already.
hopefully this ramble did something to help somebody because if not then ill just go back to doing fun posts
