They are slow, so the way they are placed in the shiptree is wrong.
They are now somewhere in the range of the fighters,
but they should be in between the fighters and the frigates.
The extra firepower doesnt make up for them being slow and hard to manouvre.
So i think they really need more hull, somewhat in between fighters and frigates.
As they are now, i dont see much use for them.
Thank you.
Well, you have a whole tech tree with fast and maneuverable gunships in the federation faction. They can be faster and more maneuverable than many interceptors, and play like a big covert ops ship.
Empire gunships already have epic tanking abilities. And yes, they are slow, but that is a trait for all empire ships. More tank, less speed. And by the way, all gunship can use the new cruise engine module, which will give them more speed, and they also have the overdrive module (+50% speed) and the engine overcharge module, so they can be the fastest fighters of all for a small period of time.
PS: Mjolnir has 10600 hull HP without modifiers. I’ve seen Mjolnirs with more survivability than federation frigates.
Let see… Waki AE, Inquisitor S, Inquisitor AE, Mauler, Sword AE, Waki S, Excalibur, Patriarch, Karud… All of those are well represented in t5 and SQ games. The latest shield tank rebalance has made jerry fighters playable and buffed a lot their interceptors.
Also, latest command diffusion shield upgrades give jerry commands a nice survivability boost.
The problem with T5 jerry commands is that their bonuses and slots are crap. Sword is very situational (although it can be a very good brawling command) and Sword S just lacks tank and command bonuses (why not give him 50% range??)
Excalibur in the other way, is pretty solid. I miss the hull slot, but 3xCPU and 3Xshield slots are great. Rail bonuses are also great. I’m having a lot of fun with it in t5 games. Well played its survivability is incredible.
I don’t play PvP with mauler or inquisitor S, but they are both my PvE powerhouses.
After the bubble nerf and the overdrive nerf, they are all right.
No, they are not. With Ion-emitter they are still too strong. In T5 the Spark is just OP, no way to kill it if you play it well and it can melt down everything in a second. In T3 I played with Desert Eagle and Nukem and I can say it’s not a rocket-science to play good with them. Ion-emitter has too much damage and gunships has enough tank a survive-modules to easily escape with them from a risky situation. Everytime I play gunship there’s no way to finish the game with less than 10 kills.

The problem is the ion emitter, not the gunship. Spark + ion emitter is good, but bubble bringer is better. Everyone is heavy thermal tanked in tier 5 anyway.

Thermal resistance doesn’t matter. Ion emitter ignores the resistance if you hold it long on the target. And it’s not so hard to do with a laser. Plus, the gunship has the overdrive special which makes that time shorter, so it’s really easy to make kill with it.
it should be reflected on the ship bonuses section
my main problem with that ship.
ion emitters can be devastating, but they still have downsides. having a good Deagle fit or Nukem fit in pubs does say something about its devastation, but the target audience is still hard to compare, sadly most people do not evade there, which, if you do correctly, will reset the damage and effects of the ion. also, it only ignores up to a hundred resistance, so you are more vulnerable to guards, which can tank you. damagewise a gauss or bubble can beat you, also the ion is harder to use while movement, and once your shields are down, a rail in overdrive can take you out in a facetank.
If you try to make your ion damaging, you are also vulnerable to ecms, possibly sacrifice range, or defense and energy.
and this is where the spark comes in a bit… slightly unfair.
