I have seen a “strafe speed” and some one told me it is the lateral move speed. But I am sorry, “to strafe” only mean gunning on the move. It would be nice if word can keep their meaning (unless the guy was wrong about the meaning in thegame but then I don’t understant why there is a strafe speed and what it does?).
Strafe keys are the “A”, “D”, “Alt” and “Space” on an American Keyboard. Strafe Speed is the speed at which you move left and right horizontally or up and down vertical without rotation or turning your spaceship.
well you correct in some way it should be changed but it might take too many words to describing it better what it really means.
i did try google “Strafe” with some more words into it, with no sort of exactly resuit, but instead i found “Strafing” witch gave a better explanation i guess
I guess the meaning come from the circle strafing. Still it is slang and not proper english. I have been playing for more than 30 years and I discovered this meaning today. I guess I not the only one.

Yes, it’s slang. So is gank, frag, camp, turtle, tank, ninja, nerf, pug, pwn and so on.
The point is that you use slang in oral speak, not in written and formal text because some people might nit understand the slang meaning. I am in the hobby for very long and still I didn’t know about strafe. That why slang should not be used in the game text especially gameplay element. Having to learn new mechnics is hard enough without having to learn a new language.

Oh please… this is just pathetic now.
Do you know what “theory” means? In common speak it means “a guess”. In scientific terms it means “the best possible explanation we can come up with based upon available information and consistent, verified test data.”
If you don’t like that, then tough, because that’s how the language works - words change meaning based on context. In the context of games, strafing is clearly defined and understood by pretty much everyone except you at this point. Why is this so hard for you to accept, or even understand?
