Gauss-based Gunship

Hello,

i do like ur opinion on a gauss based gunship. Please refrain from the usual one-line jokes.

I would like to have the mjolnir, with 3 CPU and three hull to make a good hull tanking Gauss ship, unluckily i dont have the mjolnir.

Therefore i have to take either Lightbringer or Piranja B2, which are both not ideal. Which one would u choose, and whith wicht setup? Or wuld u think its just a stupid idea without Mjolnir ans skip it?

Hey, I am doing a a social study on one line jokes, because, you know, for science.

Which “usual one-line jokes” are you referring too? Which ones are more usual than others?

I “Gauss” you didn’t see this one coming

I hate u. Just answer the damn question.

Basics for any gauss gunship:

  • Put as much strafe as you can, including the implant

  • Increase critical chance up to 30 or 33% for full chance in a 3 charges shot

  • Get the fast locking implant or fit an over-clock in CPU

  • Fit as many pulse dischargers as you can.

GG.

Thank u.

Question is if u can do that sucesfully on either the lightbringer or the Piranja B2 and get it on a competetive level with an comparable Mjolnir build. I doubt it but perhaps u have an idea. The Piranja has like the Mjolnir improved projectile speed on kinetic weapons, but the best playstyle for it is adaptive shield which is not a good idea to combine with Gauss in my experience. Lightbringer on the other hand has three CPu and seems quite good, but lacks the improved speed of kinetic weapons, most likely making it imposs to hit interceptors.

Thank u.

Strafe build for piranha is really good. Of course a dedicated Mjolnir will be better because you can always configure it your way.

Adaptive shields don’t work in the strafe piranha, but if you play it well, you shouldn’t have problems of tanking. Your assets are range, and strafe for dodging incoming shots.

Thats an idea. How would u set up the CPU? Its a bit diff cuz u only have two slots and will want range and crit.

I would use the range implant + crit + overclock. That way you will have more range without the damage debuff of the horizon, and a healthy sensor range for locking targets unsupported.

Isn’t this contradictory? Lightbringer and Piranha have mediocre energy stats, making the regeneration worse wont help much with your constant strafing though.

Passive armor

And anyway, the quid is “as you can”.

I have passive armor in my strafing rockwell, and I’m doing really nice.

Its a tough choice to choose between the LB and piranha for a Gauss gunship.  I’d probably go with piranha because having that kinetic projectile speed will let you hit smaller ships a lot better.  It will have less dps than the LB, but it is more suited for “gorilla warfare” as I call it.  Fit it exactly how eviscerador said, it works well!  Just make sure that you have enough energy to afterburn-strafe around for awhile if things get coil/eclipse spammy when the frigs start coming out for revenge.

What u think bout that?

Wow do something about those hull slots, they wont make you that tanky and interceptors will have a nice time with you…

You’ve got a problem there, mate.

The Irridium Heatsink on your capacitor slot will do you no good with the Gauss, because it’s a charge weapon. It’s Rate of Fire won’t be affected, therefore you won’t get a damage increase. You have to go with a Pulse Discharger to increase damage.

Also, Galvanized is nice, but only so long as you take out approaching interceptors before they get within dogfight range. If you can’t do that, they will be able to circle you without any worry because you won’t be able to turn fast enough to shoot them off. (Rotation reduction).

You need at least one Passive Armor to offset the energy drain of a Pulse Discharger. Leaving the other as a Galvanized should be ok…

Consider removing the Combat Reboot in favor of an Engine Overcharge, so you can have more escape and re-positioning options without using Overdrive. Combat Reboot is only good if you expect to have ECMs up your tailpipe, and with this build, you don’t want them anywhere near you (snipe them first).

combat reboot is the best module a gunship has (not counting overdrive)

Well, keep in mind I am not a dedicated gunship pilot. It was just a suggestion based on what I might do.

But since I’m here, I’ve got one more crazy idea:

Keep Combat Reboot and replace Hull Repair with Particle Purge. Take both Shield slots and put two Projection Splitters on to maximize Shield volume. If engaged by an Interceptor, shoot them on approach, hit Combat Reboot, wait for them to start circling, then activate Particle Purge and watch them detonate.

Have an online soundboard ready on a hotkey to play Admiral Ackbar’s “It’s A Trap!” line upon successful use.

In my opinion the fed gunship isn’t worth considering as a gauss gunship. Here is what I would use on the Lightbringer:

Ok, what am I missing here, guys?

Both of you have Irridium Heatsinks paired with Gauss. To my knowledge that provides absoluetely 0 benefits because it is a charge weapon.

Why are you doing it this way? Is there something I don’t know?
