Game mechanics exploit ? Report function ?

Hello there,

 

Sorry to bother you guys, I was playing this game for a long time when it first came out and recently returned back to it, I can say it’s very pleasing to discover the open world and all the new things. 

 

However, I just came across somebody who prevents me from playing by (supposedly) exploiting the game mechanics or at least I believe he is but I admit I do not understand fully what’s happening. 

 

As such can anyone tell me if there is an in game report function ? 

 

Second, to explain the problem here is what happened : 

 

I was in open world doing an open space quest and fighting off Biomorph with the coil mortar gun. 

 

Some guy with a yellow name was flying in circle around the Biomorph and the auto-aim triggered on him which sent the drone and the mortar damaged him so well not sure if he did this on purpose so that I couldn’t hit the Biomorph without hitting him or if it was an accident. Nonetheless he came back at me and killed me. 

 

Thus far I don’t mind, there’s nothing wrong but here is the tricky part : 

 

After respawning in the New Eden station, I undock and the guy is there, I don’t know exactly what happens but he dies and for some reason the federation ships attacks me. 

 

I die again and I respawn back in the station, I undock once again and so I notice the guy is there again in fact he runs toward me and seem to explode by himself (not sure how, is there a way to auto destruct?) and I notice that I’m getting a 299sec criminal tag (wtf?) and thus the federation destroy me again. 

 

I undock one last time and try to use my warp gate to avoid the guy but it’s too late he was already there camping the New Eden spawn and destroying himself once more to have me killed by the federation ships. 

 

I realized that my karma (I have no idea what that is or what it does but I suppose it’s sort of a reputation system) was DRASTICALLY going down. And so I stopped playing for a while to avoid being killed by that guy. 

 

So was that an exploit or have I done something wrong? I am not sure what was going on so I’d be very grateful if any of you could explain to me what to do so that it can’t happen again. Thank you.

If you damaged him somehow, and he self-destructs, you count as killer and he was the victim, you become Criminal and the police wants to kill you,

If it’s not that, i don’t know. I fly around in Invasion and kill players as well, but i don’t know a bug which allows you to tag somebody criminal without that he did even shoot you once.

Yes, that I understand but I wasn’t damaging him after getting killed the first time.

He was simply running at me self destructing close to me and had me as a criminal. Never once initiated damage when I was respawning at New Eden. Probably a bug then. 

 

How do I attach my logs? 

C:\Users\ YourProfileName \Documents\My Games\StarConflict\logs*The log folder of the date (and time) when it happened*

Common folder for logs if you didn’t change it, i use Windows 10 but it should also be the same for Windows 7 & 8/.1, i used Windows 7 before and it was at the same location.

Whoever was responsible, report function should only be used, if a person is using or doing something illegal.

Invasion mode has no such regulations, so you can’t really report someone, unless if that someone was insulting, spammed the chat, or if illegal tools were used.

People got banned for musical beacon capture to boost pvp effectiveness score. This guy self destructing to boost invasion karma score.

Also be careful when using area damage as you got him first indirectly due to area damage so you get criminal if he dies.

But, using duplicator or whatever and self destruct (esc + abandon ship) is a bug and use of said bug to intentionally or non intentionally boost score and or kill other player.

Did you have station protection on?

Thank you, sounds like it’s then a mechanic working as intended but seems like a poor one and I don’t think that spawn camping with it is fair in any way shape or form in my humble opinion, there’s nothing we could do about it. 

 

 

I used the last timestamp before I disconnected so it should be somewhere here. Lurounet is my team mate and my nickname is Teweedo in game, we were both spawn camped by the guy self destructing so I think the logs will show that as well.

See, I’m on the verge of disagreeing. I see this happen in a Station Protected zone, especially the main hangars, and because it is a “safe zone” so to say, I’d consider this situation to be a breach of 6.5 in the game server rules (Intentional infliction of damage to allied team members).  

 

Unfortunately, this is one of those grey areas, as we do not have much regulation on open space play. I’ll talk to the other GMs about this.

Though I haven’t disabled any protection whatsoever. Shouldn’t it be automatically on when getting out of the starter station though? That being said If there is such a thing as an option that I need to activate I’d appreciate if anybody could tell me how to do it. 

 

As for the game mechanic itself, I don’t think it needs much rework then, simply not enabling criminal status when the “attacker” dies from self destruct would prevent any abuse of the mechanic unless I’m missing something. 

What about update your engines. When you turn off your engine and turn right your ship will turn right but your axis of direction will turn right too !!! This is unlogic. Your ship should go in direction when your engines were last time turned on. I mean engines at the end of ship, primary engines that push the SHIP FORWARD, I dont think rotary engines. Do you know what this mean ? Your ship can go in direction to point A with max 700 speed and can rotate in another direction and still fly with 700 speed TO POINT A! You can fire everywhere and still fly to the some point A. This is new mode of playing. 100% like universe. Sorry for bad english. What do you think about this information ?

The open PVP status in this case is largely irrelevant to the fact that you were still exploiting and abusing a game mechanic. 

 

The protection option is only there to ensure that non-consensual PVP can’t happen in certain areas but the issue remain regarding consensual PVP since you would still be able to abuse it outside of the protection system which is clearly an inherent flaw of the mechanic in the first place.

 

Using an inherent game mechanic flaw to your advantage in order to engage in griefing actions such as repeatedly burning other’s people karma in complete impunity is the VERY definition of an exploit. There’s various form of exploits in case this is your first online game, ranging from bug exploits, glitches exploits to game mechanics exploits.

 

Your action fall in the later UNLESS the developpers intended the mechanic to be used that way. However we all know it is unlikely the case.

 

The developpers haven’t built a consensual PVP system where the goal is to blow up yourself against non-engaging people (i.e innocent) in order to make them criminal against their will and have them lose karma. Making this toxic behaviour permitted is only asking your player base to stop using the existing system in the way it was meant to work and to make sure that they blow up themselves first to avoid losing karma. 

 

As such my point of view is that it should be fixed one way or another and should not be allowed/tolerated to use this exploit in nefarious ways in the mean time. 

 

That being said, I’m only explaining this because you came into this thread discussing the issue and this is simply my personal stance on the matter.

 

Otherwise I want to make clear that it is NOT my goal to turn this thread into a witch hunt against you. I have nothing against you personally and was only seeking for an explanation as to what exactly happened. I am fairly certain you’re neither the first nor the only one engaging in this type of behaviour thus as far as I am concerned you should NOT be the scapegoat of this issue. 

 

Ultimately having this permitted or not is the game masters/game developpers call and I’m only throwing in my piece of opinion, hopefully this will at least generate a clear answer from the Star Conflict staff at one point or another. 

On a side note, for what it’s worth, after a quick google search and checking out my settings : the station protection option is still set on enabled (never touched it as I wasn’t even aware of its existence until people told me in this thread). 

 

So something else was up on top of the main issue. Is there a way to lose it for any reason whatsoever? Does it appear anywhere in the combat logs? 

PVP system is meant for Skirmish battles.

In Invasion there is no such system and you’re free to do what you will, at your own volition.

Free to attack whoever you want any way you want =/= free to exploit the game mechanics. 

 

The mechanic itself is built to ensure that an attacker will be punished in a specific way. You are exploiting a very particular flaw in the mechanic to generate the complete opposite effect which is clearly game breaking. 

 

So the remaining question is : Do the developpers/game masters approve of game breaking exploits for the sole reason that it happens in open space? 

 

So far I’ve never seen exploits being encouraged/allowed in others game, regardless of the mode, the reasons or whatnot. This specific one would turn open space into a mess if more people were behaving like that, everybody blowing themselves up isn’t really what this game is about, is it? 

 

Though, once again, that’s not my call and I said what I had to say. I’ll let the staff handle this issue since they believe it is in some grey area and my only wish is to have an answer one way or the other.
