Game Master Over Haul and profanity filter settings

The GM system needs a serious over haul. The GM’s appear hyper sensitive to what they call offensive words.

We have a profanity filter. If profanity is such a big deal then it should not be able to be turned it off, or an age verification check needs to be in place to turn it off.

Steam has your birthday. This should a fairly easy task to accomplish.

This is my proposed changes.

  1. The GM’s should be here to make sure the filter is not circumvented, and to add those circumvented versions of profane/offensive words to the filter.

As time goes on The filter should catch nearly everything.

  1. The GM’s should be here to help the new players.

  1. The GM’s shall not provoke players to break the rules as I have witnessed in global.

  1. The GM’s should watch for and report bugs. Help players locate log to upload the report if necessary.

  1. Mutes and banns should only be for Spam, circumvention of the filter, or cheating or excessive abuse towards another player.

This has been my role as a moderator for many titles. Profanity was not an issue We just flagged the word to add to filter.

I just selected Other

If you’ve witness a GM provoke other players to break the rules, check your C:\Users[user name here]\Documents\My Games\StarConflict\logs folder and find the logs.  Send a private message to Error, and he’ll look into it.  I’m not sure if there are others who can be vouched upon.  Honestly, I want to know because I don’t like the idea of one person being solely responsible.

Perhaps reading the rules yourself would work out as well. I will quote one part of it about your “filter” issue.

d) the players can prevent the display of obscene words in chat with the help of a profanity filter included in the game settings. But the presence of such a filter in the game is not an excuse for writing obscene words in chat channels.

Here is a link to all of them so you can review them yourself.

Hello

if there is a complain about one or more GMs, please take a screenshot and send a complain to me via private message.

Got muted once, can’t even remember why. Probably deserved it, too. However…

  1. The GM’s shall not provoke players to break the rules as I have witnessed in global.

GMs provoking players is quite the accusation, but not rare at all. If you have proof of that, send it to an Admin.

GMs aren’t the only ones to do that. However, the game is so full of abusable and bugged things, no one cares and everybody uses them with reckless abandon.

Cheating is an outright ban in any game. Except in games that literally hand you the cheats and tell you how to use them. Mutes should only apply for profanity, filter bypass (filter that SHOULD be expanded whenever the GMs, not the Admins, believe words should be added), racism and other VERBAL abuses.

I’m inclined to bring up two points here:

  1. There is a swearing filter. That should cover profanity; GMs should only step in if someone is really going overboard.

  1. The game routinely spurts out comments like “die, xxxxxxx!” or “nailed the xxxxxxx!” As such, players should not be punished for making comments of similar vulgarity; it smacks of double-standards.
