Frigate Drones - different modes for different times...

hey guys!

My biggest peeve with the Engy frigs has to be the bad, bad timing of the drones switching between healing and shooting. I want them shooting as soon as people get close, and healing when they arent. However, most of the time they are healing with an inty shoved up my behind.

So, i would say either reduce the cap drones heal to, make them only heal with no ships within x metres, or give us variable modes (ie settings for aggressive or defensive, defensive heals more, aggro. shoots.)

Thoughts?

I see it sorta like the way the guard shield works - a red version for aggro, more shooting, especially when moving between and into ‘busy’ areas, and blue for defensive, which heals you. However, how could you use the special? Maybe have the blue version also heal others?

I assume you’re referring to the guard frigate’s phase shield. Phase shield confers a massive resistance bonus against a single damage type for your shields. By default it’s set to thermal (indicated by the red icon). Activating the module (i.e. pressing ‘F’) cycles between the damage types: blue for EM resistance, yellow for kinetic. 

 

 

Back on topic… it’ll be nice to have the option to switch the modes of the drones. Potentially this could change the way engies work: you either heal teammates, or deal damage to opponents.

But i was focussing on the player ability to change the way the module works, rather than activate it. So the drones are always on, like the shield, but they’d have different modes.

So one attack mode, one healing mode and one take cover/drone invulnerability mode? finally drones wouldent die from the first missile anymore if you are quick with the F button.

No, i doubt the devs would implement the third option. I was thinking attack, heal self and heal others? But heal others functions much like the current special for engys eg. needs energy to work, has cooldown, etc.

I wish people con upgrade their attack drones…  like changing their weapons or increasing their damage and healing.

Long range lasers on an engineer drone?  You could kill the captain while sitting halfway across the map.  Having the same damage type might be ok, but the same weapon would cause a major imbalance.  Who’d fly anything but an engineer?  PvE with longer ranged weapons on an engineer’s drones equals easy wins.

I agree about possibly same damage type as the original weapon, not the modifiers, that would be somewhat OP.

 

yeah if your running rails the drones just shoot rail guns at there normal damage, if your running lazers they shoot lazers. 

 

Bascially you give them the same weapon as you and you can choose who they attack
