Strangely enough the win bar above your empire ranking shows the majority of wins as that of Federation and not Empire or Jericho, last I saw, the ratios were ~20,000 for Empire and Jericho and 30,000+ for Federation, which shows that while Dissys and Torps are a major pain to players, they don’t really help in winning, in fact, they can be said to cause people to lose!
Not sure why the Federation is in the lead, maybe without a long range frigate, people are more willing to mix it up in small ships and do the mission goals or maybe their frigate support ability really is that powerful. Need to check it out a bit more.
or it’s just simply you who’ve got used to a completely tasteless element in the game, and so naturally I become the whiner… and you are what? conservative prick who can’t see a very clear flaw in the game?
You never became the whiner, you started off that way with your original post and just keep getting more whiny by the post.
They other posters have given you plenty of suggestions for dealing with the snipers and long range missiles. If you choose not to take their advice, then it is your own fault when you continue to die to the same thing over and over. Not the game’s, not the dev’s, yours and yours alone.
As for the game’s success, there are plenty of games that offer long range weaponry and still sold extremely well. You seem to believe Star Conflict is the first game ever with snipers…
It’s good to see that the original poster stopped posting his immature ranting and the replies became more of an intellegent discussion.
I’ve only advanced to Tier 2 and the sniping mechanics is largely fine as it is in this game. The concept of a instanteneous damage dealer that requires line of sight, and a guided missle does AoE damage to both friends and foes, is in fact, good. Although, moving from T1 to T2, I feel T2 ships are much harder to kill due to their base HP, but Disintegrator and Guided Torpedo’s damages are not scaled up enough. The idea should be that these special abilities should do damage scaled to the base HP of the ships of their respective tiers. For example, it should take a T1 sniper to land same amount of clean hits to kill a T1 fighter as a T3 sniper to a T3 fighter.
Another problem is that a sniper camp is really hard to break (at least in ~T2). Although most of the times these snipers don’t contribute to the objective other than scoring kills, it can be a serious game delaying formation in Combat Recon mode. Each additional sniper in the camp not only multiplies the effectiveness of stopping emeny ships from closing in, it also multiplies the effectiveness of taking down nimble interceptors that are lucky or skilled enough to get in to the sniper camp. Lastly, the Empire frigate seems to be the tankiest compare to other two races; the correct way of balance is to make the Federation frigate the hardiest due to its brawler nature.
Countless times I’ve been into dogfights that are more epic than any game I’ve ever played, but then just to see the epic moment destroyed from some degenerate fat kid sitting in the back, not moving one inch just sniping or sending torpedos.
HOW COULD YOU BE SO INCREDIBLY STUPID TO RUIN ONE OF THE BEST GAMES with all these sniping tools (and by sniping I mean anything that can kill you from +5k) !?!??!?
No matter how beautiful and awesome I fly, it gets ruined when that fat kid in the back just stands sill and presses left mouse button or whatever the hell he does.
I’m using all reflexes and senses to evade asteroids and get into really awesome dogfights, just to see them ruined by these degenerate xxxxxxxx only here to F**K with other people’s experience.
HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID!"?!?!?!?!? I WANT TO LOVE THIS GAME but all these god forsaken fat a**hole unskilled xxxxxxxx just standing still at their spawn point protected by a few other degenerate xxxxxxxx doing the same thing RUINS THE GAME
Beyond stupid…
You need ot realize that a game, which many people will play must cator to many types of playstyles, YOU may not like snipeing or long range combat, However others do, Not everyone likes to get in a fighter or inty and dog fight personally I find it incrediably boring.
I play a support / Protection frigate. My job is to heal and protect the ships around me, so yea I need something I can hit people with at long range since most of the time I will be protecting the captain, or a beacon.
You speak from a position of ignorance, both tactically and game mechanically and player wise. And your rant is counter productive to the game, the problem is not the ships, the problem is… “YOU”.
Ok guys, ever since I wrote this post and read some of the comments I decided to try these god forsaken sniping/torpedos/disintigrators out.
I am now quite amazed that there is even a discussion about how INCREDIBLY OP they are. I’ve been ticking off kills after kills, I get at least 10-14+ assist each game, and at least 8kills every single god damn game.
When I played fighter, i REALLY had to fly like an ace and truly work hard for this kind of stats. But now I could just park by an asteroid and fire off these torpedos to kill one by one, without even concentrating that much. Easy kills. Completely misplaced in the game.
This is causing great harm to the game and its expansion to new audience. I see in chat people again and again, complaining on how OP and how bored they are with getting killed from guys just sitting there pressing F like I’ve been doing these two days. For those of you arguing FOR these long range tools at tier 1 & 2 have really NO IDEA what you’re talking about. You are doing this game a huge disservice by not completely encouraging them to change these flaws immediately.
NERF, immediately ! Give the torpedo much much longer cooldown at least, and mayby increase the damage to balance it out. That goes for sniping as well.
You are talking about tier 3 or 4. this is about tier 1 and 2
where they op
t2 they are not op -.- t3 they are especially up, and in t4 they seem damnright completely useless.
t1 the only op element of them is the complete lack of game skills people have in that tier.
did one for the fun of it yesterday where people flew continually in straight lines perfect for shooting, there was 2 people which had an idea of how to dodge which ofc i just stopped shooting after them after the first hit since by then i would miss WAY too many shots for it to be worth having me hanging around at 8km and being lame ^^ (thought i could get the 8disint kill quest done, doesnt update in t1 ships sadly since its a t4 quest -.-)
personally i really do feel like the disint and the torps needs some changings which will translate to stronger at t3-t4 and weaker at t1 ±t2 depending if you learned to use them. i already provided some ideas of how this could be done in this thread which i hope have been read and considered by the devs
but i am thinking of comming up with some other methods this could be done as well as alternatively which wouldnt require as much changing to the gameplay of these ships^^
Don’t know for tier1 but i fly a t2 fighter and snipers are never a problem, they really rarely hit me and if they do it’s just 1 hit. Also since i mostly follow objectives i rarely go hunt them and simply ignore their existence and everything goes well.
For guided torpedos is a little different i get killed (heavily damaged) by those but most of the time it’s a friendly torpedo cause people think “Oh cool a guided missile let’s use it without caring at hitting our team mates”. Btw, i like guided torpedos, Jericho fregate are the one i find easier to kill.
I realize getting killed by a torp or a sniper in a few shots, may upset you but there is something you need to realize as a fighter / inty pilot:
On fighters / inties:
Your in a fast ship, agile and with modules capable of doing far more damage then any frig.
You inty missile slots have special missiles that do 11k per hit and have a 5k range. THIS IS FAR more damage then the meager 4k done by torps and sniper weapons.
You have modules that will disable cripple and incapacitate other ships, makeing it virtually impossible for them to fight you if you: LEARN TO FLY YOUR SHIP CORRECTLY!!!
On Frigs:
They are big and slow, being such they have modules designed for stationary fighting, and are sorted into roles which are designed for Support and Protection, NOT OFFENSE.
Without their long range weapons these ships would be virtually useless combat wise unless you flew up to them, there is no way in hell these ships could get into close range and kill people other then in 1v1.
They are big and tanky to make up for the lack in mobility. There long range weapons are designed to give those who choose to pilot them and protect Captains or beacons the ability to still fight tactically, and get to where the battle is.
These ships take “Skill” to fly and use correctly, any new player can shoot a torp, but only an individual with skill can kill the enemies in a group without also killing their allies.
On game play:
Working as intended.
Torps and snipers actually need a boost in damage to be on the same level as fighter craft weapons. (As I said above fighters have a missile that does 11k - 13k damage and has a 5k - 6k range). And the sniper weapon needs a range upgrade to make it on par with the Torp range.
If you are getting killed by either the torp or the sniper weapon you are either:
A. not paying attention to your surroundings.
B. Not fit correctly
c. Don’t know how to fly your ship.
I can not stress enough how important it is to note that these ships are in fact very balanced as is. They each serve a purpose and when played correctly they are awesome It is a matter of skill and knowledge of your ship which determines your defeat, or your success not the ship itself.
Again the issue is not the ship, it is “YOU” the player. and screaming nerf will not change the fact that you simply… Suck.
Hey! I see you are pro! Try to fly anything but not an imperial or a jerricho frigate and we’ll see your skill! In t1-t2 matches ofcourse. t3+ sniping/torpedoing is truly useless. But t3+ matches has its own issues, meaning that t3+ is completely different game Don’t fly t3+ until you are prepared please or you will be killed too frequently.
Best torp kill that happened to me, I got suckered into it, was chasing an enemy fighter when he turned and flew straight at his support. I turned to follow, and when he suddenly did a hard right, I saw this red thing coming straight at me. Knew it was “Oh xxxx!” the instant he turned and I saw the torp. If it was deliberate and not a coincidence, my respect.

Maybe you missed something. Kills don’t help you win. Objectives do. You can get 20 kills and still lose. And the really funny thing is that most frigates sit safely in the rear BECAUSE of your front line of fighters, they take the biggest share of attention and saves your a-s. If you went all frigates, no or low fighters/interceptors, you won’t last 5 minutes AND will almost surely lose the mission.
But it’s all about YOU, right?
See tji’s post, the one about people flying in completely predictable straight lines in the open.
In a battlefield, as you said, fly like a hawk, shot like a bunny. Walk like a boss in Afganistan, shot like the big target you are.

As said above, i fly T2 fighters (Federation),have no problems with snipers/torpedoes. Also people are right saying that most of the frigate that sit way back in the battleground have almost no chance to help in important fights to conquer/hold points or take down targets.
But i have a question now, Airsuicide say there are missiles with 5k range and around 11k dmg, what are those? I never seens them at least on t2 ships, guess it’s an higher tech?

Anomaly generators I guess. Heavy missile slot. But it is useless. You need to stay for 3 seconds, your target need to stay too. If someone moves for few meters, your generator will be wasted. For staying i mean your and your target speeds must be 0 and without any strafes, so you must brake down and make sure that enemy stands too to fire this “missile”.
First one is the commander mod : Commander as frigate, turtuling at max range (17km?), 2 torpedo, 2 snipers and 1 fighter surrounding him. This is nearly impossible to reach him, and if you do, you are so low in hp that you’ll certainly die in less than a second.
Secondly, mine field. If you reach a frigate position and the pilot knows he will die, one answer : Minefield / win button. This skill deals too many damages for a defensive skill on a ship that is already specialized on attack power and resistance.
That said, in T2, I feel like snipers are almost useless to the team (beside turtuling in commander mod). Where Jerichos shine with their powerfull torpedos, snipers cant get any shooting angles, and if you are doing right, they can’t hit you.
I think that the right thing to do is to lower their resistances, and keep their hit power like this, or lower their power and keep their resistance. But actually, they are broken.

I don’t think this data is at all relevant. The reason I say this is because I chose Jericho to start and now I play Federation. Which side does it choose for me winning? Jericho because it’s my original race or Federation because I am doing contracts for them right now?
thing like missile that deal 11k dmg does not exist, most of modules does not exist for tier 1!!!
some frig have ability to reduce energy cost and increase effective of “support” module but those not even exist, the only module that exist for support is on Fighter
the increase shield resistance and hull resistance.
it’s not big problem on mid or late gameplay but it piss new player off, they might quit the game before they get into higher tier and that’s not good.
a good game design need to preserve and hold new player not to kick them in the nut.
