Flares used to kill drones.

There are certain matches where there are many many drones flying around.  It would be nice to have a module that can take them down easily, since certain main weapons with high spread are not suited for this purpose.

So what about using flares to kill a drone?  It would work like this:

  1. lock a drone

  2. use your flares

  3. the drone you locked dies.

The flares would still work for their anti-missile function.  When locked onto a drone and used, there would be a green beam that fires out and hit’s the drone, like for the AMS on the guard.

It would be necessary to increase the cooldown time of the flares since killing a drone every 20 seconds seems a bit much.

Possible alternative: a totally new module called Drone Disruptor that works like flares, but against drones.  It would have the same characteristics as above, just without the anti-missile capability.  Then the pilot would have to choose between being able to kill drones or kill missiles.

Thoughts?

This is not exactly how it should works.

The Flares are a “Defensive Multipurpose Module”, you should not have to lock the drones.

Technically, it should be something like this :

  1. Random guy launch his drones
  2. Random guy locks you
  3. Random guy’s drones are coming for you
  4. You see the Random guy’s drones coming for you
  5. You use your “Flares”

and here come differents choices :

  • Drones are destroyed like missiles
  • Drones are disabled for “X” seconds, they can’t shoot or move, making them “Easy Target”
  • Drone’s locks are resetted, they go back to the launcher and can’t relock a target for “X” seconds.

For AMS it’s easier :

  • Drones enter in the AMS range
  • Drones goes boom
  • The END !

I just wanted to make use of the fact that we are able to lock onto drones, but not onto missiles.  It seems to me it should be harder to kill drones since they do have hitpoints as opposed to missiles.  Therefore the need for a lock on in order to kill them.  This takes your focus off your previous target still.

I think I prefer if the drones are killed.

This would make AMS a bit too strong I think, but is still a nice idea.  If this were to be implemented, then I think it should not affect beacon drones.

Nope, the AMS is giving no reward, only stopping missiles and unguided missiles, it’s was extremly strong when there was no reloading cartridge in the game. Now the modules is “Meh”.

The only drones that AMS should kill are the “Attack Drones”, not the beacon, not the Tackler drones.

You use your “Flares”

Drone’s locks are resetted, they go back to the launcher and can’t relock a target for “X” seconds.

I vote for this one.

Flares for killing drone? Interesting)

make it blow the attack dogs up, they’re missile slot items. one thing this doesnt apply to is minefields. attack drones are “guided, low velocity smart projectiles”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  :01414:

Flares do not kill anything, they seize control/jam the missile and it keeps going in its current trajectory, and does not re-lock unless controlled by a player (guided torp). So the question is do drones get jammed and the continue in a trajectory for 2 seconds, do they stop instantly for 2s, and can they regain lock on the target afterwards as they are AI controlled but are “returnable” missiles.

2secs being about the the flares block missiles for (or is it 1s?)
