Exclude 2 man squads from squad MM

Simple suggestion, that I think would make a lot of people happy. Make it so that 2 man squads get the same MM as a single person, i.e. the MM doesn’t try to find another 2 man squad. The only restriction would maybe not put them into small matches such as 4v4, though even then I think it would be ok.

Players want to play with friends without being punished for it.

This was tested, and a lot of people complained because the MM placed several squads in one team, and none on the other.

And it looks like if the MM has to place one squad on each side, well, that is what happens now.

I would love to have this back again though. I didn’t complained about the squad, since two man squads are not that game breaking, even if there are several of them. The game is supposed to balance solo pilots with their MMR, so even if there are more squads in one side than in the other, games should be balanced.

A lot of people did squads that time, it was happy times. But as I said, some of the solo players complained and it was removed.

Surely a few lines of code could prevent that from happening.

But yeah I agree that 2 man squads are not game breaking and I bet the solo players that complained are the same ones that blame other stuff/players for their lack of skill.

The biggest plus form doing this is the new player experience. When I first started me and my mates wanted to play together, but we couldn’t because the queue times were ridiculous. They don’t play any more because of this.

I guess it depends on people.

I’d like to have faster queues and to be able to go in skirmish with 3 mates without waiting. So I say : screw matchmaking, just balance squads (one on each side when it’s possible.

I’ll trade some one-sided defeats for faster queue anyday. Plus current matchmaking system doesn’t prevent one sided game anyway…

Even when there are squads on both teams there are one-sided defeats, which does also make me feel that this squad MM is a bit pointless. But there would have to be some restrictions when the matches are small, e.g. 4v4, a 4 man squad vs solo players would be game breaking.

The problem is that the devs didn’t address the complaint. People weren’t asking for 2 man squads to be matched, but for the game to make it less uneven. Three duos vs two, not one vs four, that sort of thing.

Instead we got a system nobody wanted.

this wont happen as it was reviewed/tested and not accepted

Which version was reviewed and tested? Because the idea of “rough balancing” - where 2 man squads are allowed to be within +/- 1 of the opposing team - was never implemented in game as far as any of us are aware.

Could we not use a system like that? Here are some examples of how it would work:

2-man squads are put into games as though they are lone players, but they are assigned to teams as follows: the “odd number” squads go to Team A, and the “even” number squads go to Team B.

So if there is only one 2-man squad, they get into a game on their own. If there are 2+ squads, then they will be more or less equally balanced.

i say yes. if ur not squadding, then expect to lose.

I am still a huge supporter of +1/-1 squad matchmaking. So 2-man squads are capable of facing another team that has no squad, but it wouldn’t allow for more squads on one team than on the other. +1/-1 is almost fully implemented at this point, as 4-man squads can face 3-man (with heavy restrictions on the 4-man in T3), and 3-man can face 2-man (with some restrictions on the 3-man in T3), but 2-mans cannot face solo players.
