I like how the gate allows you to choose the direction in which you warp but for sake of random team coordination I feel it might be a better idea to have the direction fixed to how the original engineer placed it.
ie. make it like the ones found in abandoned map.
you can approach and enter the gate from whatever vector but you will warp in one fixed direction.
AND warp gate auto destructs when engineer dies. solves thud issues and reduces other exploits.
Kine…what?
I have never been able to warp backwards…I guess I’ll try that today when I get the chance but so far I’ve never been able to manage to warp through it in the “wrong” direction.
and warp gates already despawn when the engi dies I believe(not 100% sure though) or it was just weird timing between me seeing the warp gate and seeing an engi die and seeing the warp gate despawn a second later.
In case I misread what you meant with the warp gate -sorry
Warp Gate goes away with the engineers death. I have enough thud medals to know this, and its why most wait to see if I crash before using my warp gate since they have a 2 minute lifespan, they wont poof immediately.
As for the wrong direction, the stationary warp gates will always bring you to the same point. If you take an engineer warp gate and point it between two beacons, you can go through straight and be between them or go through a little bit at an angle to end up at either of the beacons, I think it allows like a 60 degree flux there.
Mainly hes asking for them to be the same due to engineers like me, to place warp gates at rather hairpin locations (hence the thud medals) and if you dont go through them just right… you crash and get your own thud medals.
you cant warp back backwards although you can reverse your vessel from infront of the gate and warp properly.
i meant the gate currently accelerates you according to your entry vector.
suggestion is to make it fixed - perpendicular to the warp gate ‘face’
[edit]
but keep the ‘after-touch’ ability intact (thx CA)
Ah, yes, sometimes it is a slight problem when you enter it just wrongly and end up on the edge of a wall(middle is placed correctly, but due to wrong entry position you end up against the wall) i must say i’d be fine with it either becoming a fixed position or staying as is.
I’d vote for fixed just for the sake of making the rest of my teammates lives easier. I’m another of those engineers who like to thread the needle so to say with my warp gate placement…
And this is why i “never” use a warp gate in a pub match.
I think some engineers place them badly to see ho may people will die using them
fixed will be much better and should make the warp gate alot more useful among the engineer’s teammates

I’ll vote for the fix as well.
And I’ll like to suggest, if it’s possible, a new medal for engineers.
I like this idea, that others would follow my warpgate the excact direction how i placed, or even the exact direction, how the first ship went through. In some maps when i go in very precise way to reach beacon faster i see my teammates crashing in walls behind me. Not the best feeling.

Not the engys place them badly, but others think they dont need to aim when going into one… ohh, how wrong they are.
I would rather make them transparent to actually see where you are going (if you are the follower) so you can aim to w/e direction you want/can, as it is now, on icy maps i cant see a god damned thing and most of the time just avoid using them
