Dynamic Lobby system

 

This a proposed system to change the way we wait for battles. In the current system, the way we wait is pretty straight foward. You press start, wait X amount of time, then get in. During that Time, you do contracts, or chat with idiots or friends on global chat. But thats about it, you will be staring at a timer for a while to no end until you get a match. 

 

I propose a change to this system which will make waiting a tad more fun and bareable to those who wait for a long time. 

 

What should happen : Press start and the standard timer starts clocking down. At this point you can do your contracts and whatever, BUT it will also allow you to go into a map with your ships, and as players come in, they come in with there ships as well. Here you can fly around shoot each other for fun while you wait, and once enough players come in, the countdown starts. 

 

In this way, wait times are tolerated and it gives a more realistic approach to players coming into battle. It allows those to practice during the wait (mabye add bots for us to kill)

 

This can be considered hitting the practice mode along with others instead of waiting in the dam lobby. Or just give us some form of entertainment, like Galagia or pacman or something!

That would lead to unequal adjustment and positioning, imo. Right now, everyone spawns in at the same time in the same position. If I had had the opportunity to, say, fly around for two minutes, then a) I would have become accustomed to the zone’s visuals, b) I may have moved out of the start area, or even placed traps for the other team in interesting places.

To clarify, its just like being all thrown into practice until the actual match…

I could see it being something for them to consider. I think it would be quite fun. However while were talking matchmaking it would also be interesting to see a pre-game lobby added. To where everyone can talk until the game fills then loads as usual.

Everything happening while waiting others would have no permanent effect i.e. any kills, spent missiles, death would not be count, and when required amount of players are logged in, then everyone is again respawned. I am sure that I remember it from some game, that did that thing, just can’t remember which one.

Bingo. That is the intent. I rather be doing something in SC instead of Alt Tabbing out to watch a video on youtube or something. I personally say the more people in practice or in there ships the better everyone will be. 

Great idea, no more staring at the screen and blanking out for 2 mins every match :smiley:

If Devs can add something to precise the type of Ships people will take at the start, that should be great. 

Maybe when you click launch you just start free flight around the station where your ships are kept and you can press < or > for example to switch between your ships and they all fly in a formation around the ship your currently in, and when you want to go into battle maybe warp gates like the one in the processing rig raid for the different battle types could be placed around the station which would make sense as there is already a warp animation when you first spawn.

This would also add to the social aspect of the game as you can fly round and meet new people, maybe corps could purchase a smaller station in orbit of the main station where they can recruit new members or something.

A completely ridiculous idea (that I’ve been told to put up even though I was joking):

I can see it now, A little frigate going around killing enemy bots…and making 90 degree turns…

What if the arcade mode was more of an arcade to give us just one happy festival, and then we MAY be more tollirable for bad updates *cough* NEW LOOT SYSTEM *cough* 

And by that i mean 1 hit kill.
