I really enjoy this game, but, as I have played it more and more, I have found it extremely frustrating and unfun to die instantly to things have little or no control over. Taking 5-10k damage (usually more than my entire hp/shield pool) from one, usually nearly unavoidable, shot is ridiculously boring. There are several huge nukes that are simply far too strong against the faster ships. IN any game with more than 4 or 5 on each side, dying to incidental explosions is far too commonplace. Flanking to land a shot while an enemy is distracted should be encouraged, but I don’t think it should be so rewarded that you do 60%+ damage of their entire health pool.
Also, the damage on pulsar and the combat drones is WAY to high for such a skillless ability. I have a nibelung that has a few mods in damage, and those 2 abilites out-damage me, not including whatever main weapon the opposing frigate is firing (which usually doesnt land ofc). Its insane to flank one of those ships and die 3 or 4 seconds after getting in range of them, just to an unavoidable ability. You cant even stealth away from the pulsar. I don’t understand why Pulsar goes through stealth. Would it really be “just terrible” if you could stealth away from it? I think not.
Hopefully higher tier gameplay(15) between real teams will be better, but I feel like the balance of this game right now pushes slow high damage frigates way too much. Having two team stare at each other from 4k+ distance has been exceedingly boring.
Could you be more specific about the 5k-10k damage shots?
Are you talking about desintegrators or EM torpedoes?
Both of them are very easy to dodge, even on a frigate, I’m pretty sure a lot of players here would be glad to give you some tips to easily evade both of them.

He’s speaking of the Pulsar. Guard with Engine Inhib + Pulsar = deadly against Ceptors if triggered at point blank range.

Adaptives ftw 81 resists to shield and hull right there.I am pretty sure In this scenario Acceleration engine was the one that covered my xxxx, all 3 torps didn’t come at the same time so between 1st and 2d i had time to regains some of my shield with shield booster - 2-3 seconds but that was enough with w/e I had left with hull to survive 2d torp, and i used my hull rep module - instant heal plus another 4 seconds from shield booster kicked in as well and that brought me to the point where it was enough to survive 3rd one. I was at 100% hull and shield when 1st torp hit, luckily tehre were no pulsars/ other random dmg going on, mostlikely would’ve died at 3rd torp. I can not confirm or deny if i was under healing from friendly Engineer, I missed that part, i know i didnt have Drones on me so my self healing got me quite high
I have 103 thermal resistance, and a pulsar did 6500 damage to me, about 80% of my health pool. That is a broken skill-less ability. At HALF that damage this ability would be strong.

103 Thermal resistance = 50% reduction dammages
Pulsar deals 10283 thermal dammage in 12 secondes and on a range of 1200m (Purple / MK4 / Experimental Pulsar as you want to name it)
First : 6500 dmg with your thermal resistance is a Lie.
Secondly : 6500 dmg on a shield with 103 thermal resistance and the hull with less than 100 thermal resistance is Possible
Third : So you stayed 12 secondes in the range of a Guard’s Pulsar? And you blame the pulsar? buahahahahahhahahahahaha

Pulsar has short range and, in case it was mounted on a Jerry ship, you can just fly away, even with the engine supressor active.
Fed guards are different, since they can pursue you.
But anyway, if you were in a nibelung, the parasitic can help you survive the pulsar, and in case you are just dieing, kick the GTFO button (MWD)

Like what Razka said: you chose to take the damage. The range of pulsar is pathetic, unless the guard has some range bonus (then it becomes less pathetic). Pulsar requires LoS in order to work, so hide behind a beacon or asteroid.
Hold on… you’re flying a recon, right? Out of all the intys, recons are the only ones that can very safely facetank pulsar.
Emergencey barrier says “Install me, never die instantly again!”
My Kris AE has crap hull points so I really doubt EB will save me.
Am i the only one who does not use any survival module (and survive regularly)? I feel like the class specific modules are so good i just need to use them. Maybe if i get to a recon that has 4 active slots (r8 atm only), i will change, but atm i couldn’t really give up any of my actives (parasitic, micro locator, stealth). Spy drones are more situational. But on Command and engie i just can’t fit anything thats not class specific, just too good to have them.
OP: the word you are seeking is positioning. With proper positioning you wont be one-shot. LRFs are pretty easily avoided (disintegrator has this huge spotlight and torpedoes are pinging your missile alarm system), bubblegun is pretty slow… you should know your enemies and their skillsets.

does that matter? it can still save you to from being 1 shotted, it also can save you from cocoon snipers (those who last hit you when your F ends), eb is just awesome for most interceptors
